QuoteGovernor Newsom Statement on Supreme Court Decision

Published: Dec 11, 2021

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court Decision allowing Texas's ban on most abortion services to remain in place:

"I am outraged by yesterday's U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing Texas's ban on most abortion services to remain in place, and largely endorsing Texas's scheme to insulate its law from the fundamental protections of Roe v. Wade. But if states can now shield their laws from review by the federal courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people's lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm's way.

I have directed my staff to work with the Legislature and the Attorney General on a bill that would create a right of action allowing private citizens to seek injunctive relief, and statutory damages of at least $10,000 per violation plus costs and attorney's fees, against anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts in the State of California. If the most efficient way to keep these devastating weapons off our streets is to add the threat of private lawsuits, we should do just that."
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

He possesses less than 3rd Grade Reading Comprehension. If he did, he would know that the right to keep an bear arms is actually an enumerated right and Roe v. Wade tortured language from an activist judiciary.

Abortion has ALWAYS been a States Rights issue but the Court Jesters were too authoritarian to rule that way and so we have the quagmire we have today. When branches of government overstep or abdicate their responsibilities you get steaming piles of bovine excrement. California was NEVER in any danger of a woman losing her ability to kill her unborn child. See, here in the People's Republik of Kommieforniastan the only lives that matter are criminals', politicians' and some people of color.

interesting since I thought there was a recent FEDERAL ban on frivolous suits against gun manufactures from actions of CRIMINALS.

My concern is that this is just the beginning. We saw this coming.  This is going to be used as a tool to create spiteful payback laws. Texas legislators are just as dumb as Harry Reid for not having the foresight to see this coming.

Justice Roberts wrote in his dissent about the Texas law that if the Supreme Court upholds a law that effectively circumvents the Constitution that the Supreme court will become effectively irrelevant. If any state can write laws that are in violation of the Constitution and cannot be quashed at the Federal level then the effect would be that there is no Constitution.
