New to me anyway.  Someone called my dad claiming to be my kid, saying he was in Pennsylvania after attending a funeral and was in jail and needed bail money.  He hung up as soon as my dad started asking questions.

yeah, that's an old one.  They must be running out of ideas and trying the old ones again!

It's an old scam. And They ask to have the Money sent to a walmart gift card or Money card.

I got called the other day by someone claiming to be from PCH, I had won 5 million and a new mercedes and I need to get to my nearest dollar store.  He hung up when he realized I was taking too long to get to my car to go to the dollar store, or maybe I didn't act as excited as someone would/should have after winning so much money....

Happened to my mother in law last year while in Florida. Caller said Grandma i'm in jail and need money, she called him by name
and the scammer replied yeah it's me. Almost got her, luckily she called us right away. afterwards she found out that happened a lot
in her retirement community. I told her if you ever get a call like that, and it's real, let him sit in jail and think about it.
:sofa:

the funny apart about that scam if you want to find some humor in it, the guy on the phone yells out, "Grandpa?"  and grandpa will assume which of his grand kids is most likely to end up in Jail and respond with that name.  Then, they run with that name.  My nephew has never lived that down in our family.  And he gave my mother a hard time about assuming he was the one in jail the rest of her life.  LOL
