Just got a call from a Washington State Solid Cam reseller - Did you know?

So I just found out today that Mastercam copied SolidCams iMachining.

This sales guy was a hoot.  Apparently, Mastercam has been trying to steal their dynamic style tool paths for the last 15 years.

I had to let the guy know that he's been added to our email spam filter and not to bother calling anymore.

Solid Cam? Thats the solid works machining module right.

I remember seeing a lot of youtube videos about Imachining back in the day, tbh, i didnt even know about dynamic mill back then, when did dynamic come out?

I am sure he would be glad to send you a Christmas card if you asked him nicely.  :hrhr:  :hrhr:

Dynamic milling came out around X4 I think?  That was about 2009/2010ish?  Imachining came out in what? 2011?

Someone on EMC told a story about the history of dynamic type machining. I can't remember who or all of the details, but it was pretty interesting. I'll have to see if I can find it some time.

To make a long story short - the solidcam salesman is full of shit.

Prior to Dynamic, I was using Volumill and testing the Adaptive Clearing plugin. I can't even remember what year that was.

The first time I'd ever seen Dynamic type toolpaths they came from Surfcam's Truemill.

There was a c-hook in version X4 and it became standard in X5.

I am likely wrong, but I seem to remember seeing a Cimco HSM Performance Pack all the way back in Mcam V9.1 that had dynamic like paths.

I always though two guys at Cimco developed the initial algorithms for HSM, that post on eMC about the history of HSM proven me wrong.
I know that the HSM Performance Pack came out before Mastercam's first dynamic milling toolpaths.

I actually called SolidCam once, requesting a demonstration of their multiaxis mill/turn module.
I sent them a sample file and told them I wanted to see them put some toolpaths on it.
The clown logged in screaming iCAM and I could not get him off it.
I ended up hanging up on the guy.
It was high pressure sales tactics on steroids cranked up to eleven.
He was treating me like boot Marine who wandered into Sleazy Sam's Used Car lot on Hill Street in Oceanside.
The sad thing is, Hardmill has quite a bit of seat time with SolidCam and says it's pretty good software

They are a Danish company that makes a nice gcode/backplot software
They use to ship a lite version with Mastercam.. maybe they still do
I bought the full version 20 years ago
The also make DNC software/hardware and file management software

They used to have a pretty sweet CAM package for SolidWorks called HSMWorks
I nearly bought a seat but I'm sure glad I didn't.
They sold that to Dassault years ago.
It is the foundation of the CAM package in Fusion now
They sold out the rest of the store to Dassault late last year
though they still operate under the name Cimco

I got quite a few emails from people saying they worked there with technical questions about some free chooks i made or something..

One of the managers where I work was suggesting we use cimco to do verification, but I thought the verify we have in mastercam was good enough..

Actually like all Cad/Cam software it has its issues, especially running in Solidworks.

iMachining itself is fantastic, its an add-on
We actually use the iMachining add-on with NX also

PEACE :D
