I live in a third world shithole.
It was windy last night and the power went off about 10:30 so we went to bed.

That was worth saying twice.

Did they shut off the power because of the wind?
I remember the last heavy winds they shut off the power in your area.
Driving home down the 60 there was one section probably due south of you that all the lights were out. Even the freeway lights. It looked pretty surreal but when I got to a certain off ramp starting with "P" the lights were on after that.

The last couple of weeks have been very windy and we've had a half dozen blackouts
of varying lengths, mostly daytime outages of an hour or less.
I'm working from home and lost a half day's work due to a blackout just before Christmas
I signed up with SCG&E to get texts about power outages, but that doesn't work any better
than their power grid.

Have you thought about installing a natural gas powered backup power supply?
I think you can get a pretty decent one for about 3k. I don't know how much for install though.
