The problem I have with that guy in the video is two things. First and most important, freedom. If a product is available for sale and people want to buy it, then it's none of anybody else's effing business. Second, kind of ties into the first point, what about all the sports cars, V8 cars, soccer mom's with 2 kids and an 8 passenger SUV, etc.? If you start pointing fingers at who is wasting gas it could get real ugly quickly. What about oversized homes, recreational vehicles like snowmobiles, ATVs, and boats. I know plenty of dudes that use way more gas in their boats each year than I do in my truck.

Here's how I see it.  If you get something useful from your consumption of resources, it's probably reasonable.  Entertainment and enjoyment are useful, provided your methods don't cause more than a reasonable amount of harm.  If you're consuming resources just to show conspicuous consumption, you're being an asshole.  Resources are limited, and if you're using them, someone else can't.  If you feed a Hummer or a Porsche Cayenne as your daily single-occupant commuter, you're raising gas prices for everyone else for no good reason.

Let's consider it as if it were another resource.  There's a certain amount of baby formula produced every month, and the production is relatively inelastic.  If you bought up all of it because you were using it to feed babies, ok, that's fair.  If you bought it all up to dump it in the ocean and make people angry, you're depriving others of that resource without justification, and you're a sadistic narcissist.

If you have a big, powerful truck for the purpose of hauling stuff, that's fair.  If you have a big, fuel hungry truck and roll coal for the purpose of making people angry and trying to make yourself feel superior, you're a sadistic narcissist.

It's all in why you do what you do.

I agree that if you are buying a diesel just to "roll coal" on other people you are an a-hole. However, you are ok with the thought police deeming one persons resource usage bad over another's because of their perceived intentions?
That's the thing about freedom, A-holes get to be A-holes up to the point of breaking the law or violating someone else's rights.

Depends on what you mean by "thought police".  I was responding to questions about judging people; yes I will judge if I think the people I see are assholes or not, and it will affect how I interact with them, up to and including publicly shaming them.  I am not proposing any government involvement.

looks like they are on the way back up
$6.09 for premium at the local Chevron station
my local Shell station is $5.89

I keep seeing article about an acute shortage of diesel fuel particularly in the south east US
According to the articles the US is down to a 25 day supply

This is not so much about a shortage of oil, but a shortage of refineries
They have not built a new refinery in the US since the 70's
I've read articles by oil executives who state there will never be another refinery built
in the US. The risk is just too high.
Refineries take years to build and cost billions of dollars and some wack job green Nazi politician call kill
it on a whim.  The Keystone XL pipeline is an example of this.
Investors took a 100% loss of billions because of the green movement and FJB.

Diesel is a byproduct of the petroleum refining process. there's some shady shit going on.

Yup.
It's LESS refined, but costs way MORE than regular and premium.

Our local price for regular has been hovering between $3.49 and $3.99 depending on where you buy it.
Diesel is still $5.50-ish to $6.10, again, depending on where you buy it.
