Del.

I'm an excellent free throw shooter.

Del.

I had Kansas in finals. Only good pick I had.

7-8 teams I think can win it all.

Should be some very competitive games.
Yup, next weekend is the greatest week in sports. It's the Frozen Four weekend...

Well I have been staying out of this discussion for the most part, but after seeing the Duke / NC game on Saturday, all I can say is...WOW...what a game.

As a Duke fan it was definitely bittersweet.
As much as I hate to admit it, North Carolina was the better team on that day.
Duke's 3-point shooting has always been their bread and butter, but unfortunately it went ice cold for them at the worst time, and they couldn't recover.

Anyway, congrats to NC for making it to the Final, even though I will be rooting for Kansas.  :harhar:

Congrats also to Coach K for a phenomenal career with 42+ years, 1200+ wins, 5 NCAA National Championships, and 5 Olympic Gold Medals (2 as an Assistant Coach, and 3 as Head Coach).

I know the Duke kids wanted nothing more than to send him off to his retirement with his 6th National Championship, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Like him or not, for my money he is the GOAT!!!

Basketball > Hockey

UNC will have their hands full against a loaded Kansas team. Can't count them out but won't be easy.

So you're passing up John Wooden as the Goat? He only had 9 championships with seven in a row and undefeated at least a couple years in a row. I think it was more. Coach K had a magnificent career but he was no John Wooden.

Total wins...not even close.
Coach K is #1 all-time by more than 100 over 2nd place Jim Boeheim (1202-1099)

Scroll waaaaaaaaaaay down to #32 to find Coach Wooden @ 664 wins.

My statement stands.
Coach K having almost twice as many wins as Coach Wooden = GOAT

Coach Wooden .804 winning %, Coach K. .766 winning %

Coach Wooden 10 championships in 12 years, 9 of them in a row. Coach K. 5 championships in 24 years, 2 of them in a row.

If Coach Wooden put in 42 seasons at UCLA how many national titles would he have had?

Wooden had 3 championships with Lew Alcinder, Jr. (AKA Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).

UCLA talent disparity in those days was pretty overwhelming. Credit to coach Wooden, but his teams were like an NBA team against the competition.

The press has been saying the same about Gonzaga getting the top recruits for several years now. How many championships have they won?

Talent more evenly spread out in today's game than back then. In today's game, Kareem and Bill Walton would be one and done's (one year then NBA draft). Those two were dominant players in college. Gonzaga has very good players, but other schools like Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, also loaded to the gills. And there's real talent in the smaller schools, evidenced by the high draft picks.

Wooden was a great coach. No argument there. But you can't compare Gonzaga with Wooden's UCLA teams.

Dan_AKA_ROY23

So, Wooden enjoyed Kareem (then Lew Alcinder) and Bill Walton for 4 years. Calipari (Kentucky coach) gets the top talent, but they play only one year for him. All the top tier talent plays only one year of college ball (as they should, can't pass up NBA money).
