Quote from: beej on March 23, 2022, 06:33 AMIf you thought Vesuvius was gonna blow, would you pay 12 million for a house on the side of the volcano?

You would if you were part of the group crying wolf when you had already killed all the wolves.

Science is similar to that. I trust the science but the scientists are an awful lot, like preachers each telling us what the science means in their view. And there seems to be some clout in being provocative while doing so. the frustrating thing is, as always, once it is politicized the usual suspects get involved to hype it up.

I remember a few years ago, a winter storm hit the south and it was brought up that there was snow in all 50 states. that made people in my area anyway, say, "what happened to global warming?" that night Bill Maher came on TV and said Global warming isn't over!  This is weather!!! not Climate!!  There's difference!!
which is right, of course. but if you have a particularly hot spell in summer, what do the national news organizations do? bring out an expert to talk about Global warming. why is it that cold spells in winter are just weather, but warm spells in summer are global warming.

Was it last summer or the summer before, it got up to something like 115 deg F. in Paris. CBS news was talking about the devastating effects of global warming. My mother-in-law was telling me about it. It was concerning to her, even though we live in the midwest. I pulled up the weather app on my phone and showed her the forecast for Paris. the next day it was supposed to be a high of 72deg. Curious that the news story didn't mention that, because that big of a swing is news worthy in and of itself.

TLDR....Duhh
