My buddy showed me a full clip that showed Will Smith laughing at the joke.  You can clearly see it while Jada rolled her eyes.  Then Will got up and slapped him.

The slap definitely looks fake and IMO was the only way the Oscar's could become relevant, as I'm sure 90% of the country had zero clue, like me, the Oscar's were even on.

I had no idea.  I started hearing about this slap on the radio today.  I didn't know what they were talking about.

I could care less about any of those award shows.

Having said that, I have always liked Chris Rock's comedy and Will Smith as an actor.
Yeah, I believe it was 100% real.

Will Smith issued a public apology to Chris on Monday, which I don't think he would have done if they were just playing.

I actually saw something very similar happen to a buddy of mine when we were on duty in the National Guard.
Another guy in our unit insulted my buddy's wife. (She wasn't there, but quite a few people heard it.)
He let it slide when it first happened, but then the more he thought about it the more he realized he couldn't let it go.
He confronted the other guy, slapped the shit out of him, and that was that.

Luckily the other guy admitted he was out of line and decided to let it go.
Otherwise I would have been in a very awkward position because I would have had to process the Article 15 paperwork on my buddy because I was his Squad Leader at the time, and an eyewitness.

All that to say, I don't think Will Smith was playing.
I think he is a genuinely decent guy who let his emotions get the better of him in the heat of the moment.

When I saw the video of the slap, it looks very staged and fake. When I saw Wills reaction afterward, it looked very real and I changed my opinion. I know that he's an actor and all, but that emotion didn't look like acting. Especially when paired with his body language.

Yeah, his tone of voice, especially the second time he said it, was dead serious IMO.
I think even Chris thought he was playing until he said it twice.

I still don't give a rat's ass about the Oscars, but I hope these two guys can put this behind them on a personal level.

He did laugh initially, but like I said, I think it took a moment to sink in.
