109 years old and still more reliable than today's John Deeres and if they break can actually be fixed by the farmer.  Bought by a farmer who still wants to farm when the end of the world comes.

mayday

common place where I grew up. event is every August
My son still takes my 51 Case DC and 53 John Deere 50 series.
they have a barn full of steam engines

I don't know about that.

A comparable modern JD would be sportin a 900+ cubic inch Cummins diesel. It might require a computer to work on it, but at least it's not a giant pipe bomb looking for a place to explode.

Old tractors are cool, we have barns full of them, but when actual farming needs to be done, they don't even compare to today's tractors.

mayday

we still have a 60's something Allis Chalmers, came with a 3 bottom plow and that worked it pretty hard.
Plows are by gone, I havent seen a plowed field in years. No till planters for soybeans right over unworked corn stalks.
The guys that work our farm are driving 4x4 500,000 tractors with GPS. In and out in a few hours. It took a few days for me and my Dad with a 190 Allis and a 370 Case diesels.

mayday

The last year I worked the farm, Planted corn that was 200 bushel to the acre and stood 10 ft high.
It killed our old 4 row combine, Luckily good neighbors came to the rescue with a 12 row, holly fuck

The little prince (owner's son) at my wife's dairies likes new tractors
They aren't huge by modern standards... $300K with air conditioned cabs, GPS and Sirius radio
The hardest part of his day plowing a field is staying awake

It was "mostly" sarcasm. I understand they are fairly reliable, I just know a few farmers whos JDs are constantly breaking down. And the lawsuit a couple years ago about farmers now being able to work on their own equipment because JD prevents it, or sumpin like dat.

And when the end of the world comes and these fancy electricicle thingamagig controlled tractors can't run, everyone will be wishin they had a handful of original tractors.

Got a whole fleet of EMP proof tractors and an old man who can make them go...

YoDoug

That's a lot of money for an antique tractor but I will hold off on calling the most expensivest until I see 2 chainz on it.
