I like the idea of a standing desk

Quote from: BrianP. on May 10, 2022, 08:37 AM...I also like the separation of work and home life. When I punch out and leave work most of the time I leave it all behind.

Me too.
I try to compartmentalize my work and home life as much as possible, so I don't know how well I would do working from home. I think there would be too many distractions for me at home, but I guess I would never know for sure unless I tried it.

Quote from: crazy^millman on May 11, 2022, 06:16 AMWell going on 30+ years of working from home in some shape form or fashion. Last 10 years have been home when not working onsite with a customer. I have my stand up desk I need to use more than I do right in the middle of the upstairs loft. My office has always been where the family can come hang out while I work. I am an early riser so 5am I am normally moving. The rest of the house anywhere from 6am getting ready for school to 11am. I normally go till 5pm-7pm during the week. I stop and have breakfast and lunch with my wife and whatever else needs to be done with the family. If I work on Saturday I try to limit that to no more than 10 hours, but still take my time to do family things. Working as an employee of a company doing what I do most require you to be in the shop not remote. Many customers still can't believe I can support them as well as I do never even being in their shop, but I can. Discipline is not easy and focusing on the tasks before you can be overwhelming sometimes, but some how I manage to get everything I need to do done.

your communication skills and discipline must be exceptional. when i had kids at home i had to lock myself in the office to avoid the distractions. people are all different, i have to draw a hard line between work and personal home life.
I have been working at home 2-3 days a week this year and seems to bring a very nice mix. reason for going in is the company is very inept in the machining world and my main focus is tooling of wich I am the saw guy, setup and operator. cool world for me. cause I am a machining whore

That means you're the same age as my daughter.

Two more years my condo will be paid off.

I'll probably have to make one more car purchase in my lifetime and, sans any unforeseen medical issues, should be the last debt I carry before retirement.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Purchased 2 new cars 2 years ago at start of pandemic. At that point they were worried about sales so they were actually still knocking off money. 60 month zero percent financing. 6 year 72k warranty on my GLI and 4 year 50k on the Tiguan. No worries on repairs. Both will be paid off before retirement.

I'm going on 5yrs now strictly remote.  My boss has never mentioned once the idea of me going back and working at the shop.  So many benefits.  One nice thing is that I can bring my laptop anywhere I live or visit and not miss a beat.  Eat lunch every day with my wife.  I could go on and on with all the pro's.  Some of the challenges for me is not having access to the tooling and fixtures just to measure stuff and see what we have available for certain jobs.  One thing I have going for me is that I have years of experience working with my boss and the foreman.  For that reason normally we think alike on most of the setups and programming.  Might be real tough if that were not the case.  Anyway I am thankful that my boss gives me this freedom.  That makes me work even harder for the company.

Agreed, I found my work ethic wasn't as good when I had to go into the office everyday.

Biggest thing I would miss would be ball busting. Not that I have ever been accused of it. 🤫
