"Finding of thousands of forged signatures threatens campaigns of two leading contenders to challenge Democratic incumbent Gretchen Whitmer"

I can't post the article. It's behind a pay wall.

This is very unfortunate. Now the left is claiming fraud. It's hard to believe that 5 candidates would be involved in fraudulently signing petitions to get nominated.

Some of Johnsons statement.   I wonder what the potential is for this?

QuoteIn a statement Monday, Johnson called for reforms to the nominating petition process, saying it was "fatally flawed."

"Criminals can commit fraud for money or by purposely infiltrating a victimized campaign with illegitimate signatures in a machiavellian attempt by the opposing party to later have them removed from the ballot," Johnson said. "Unfortunately, the signatures provided to campaigns cannot currently be checked until after their submission to the Secretary of State. This needs to change, immediately."

QuoteMichael Brown Announces
Withdrawal from Governor's Race
Captain Michael Brown has decided to immediately withdraw from the
Governor's race. He has informed his family, friends, and tireless campaign staff,
and will be contacting all his great supporters.
Brown issued the following statement:
It appears that after my campaign's signature gathering was complete,
individuals independently contracted for a portion of our signature
gathering and validation jumped onto other campaigns and went on
a money grab. They were involved in allegedly fraudulent signature
gathering activities with these campaigns causing the Michigan Bureau of
Elections to declare all of the signatures connected to those individuals as
invalid.
I cannot and will not be associated with this activity.
We built this campaign on common sense conservative principles with a
positive message of prosperity, safety, and respect for all the citizens of
Michigan. The countless hours, miles, conversations, and tireless effort will
not be in vain as I continue to fight for the future of Michigan.
I have made many tough decisions for the right reasons over my life. This
is a painful but necessary decision I make decisively because that's what
the citizens deserve. During my years in the Marine Corps and 34 years in
the Michigan State Police each assignment has been about serving the
citizens. I will exit the race for Michigan's Governor with my integrity and
this principle intact.
Thank you Michigan.

I couldn't remember a Michigan governor that had only a single term so I looked it up. I was two years old living in Texas the last time it happened.

Anyone else see the pattern here?

When Dems win it's always squeaky clean in their view, but their view of Republicans is that is always fixed, even in the Primary when they are only running against other Republicans.
Sad.

Wait for the outcry in November when the Republicans take back control of the House and Senate.

Watch 2000 Mules if you want to see REAL voter fraud in action.

Any time you pay people to gather signatures you are going to get bogus signatures

The article said that 5 of 10 candidates may be disqualified so I assume that there are 5 left.

One of the disqualifications was considered the front runner going from memory.

I thought that Johnsons statement was interesting and if there is potential for what he's saying, that needs to get sorted out, even if it's not what actually happened.  To think that this is possible is scary.

We've moved WELL beyond the "possible" and far into the "probable" arena.

Things we know about our electoral process:
1) It relies on the trustworthiness of the individual voters. i.e. no non-citizens voting, no voting more than once, no felons voting, people voting in the right district, etc...
2) It relies on the trustworthiness of the candidates themselves. i.e. they are not hiring foreign nationals to dig up magic beans against the other candidate(s), they are not ineligible to hold the office they are running for, they are hiring trustworthy signature gatherers, etc...
3) It relies on the trustworthiness of the individuals that oversee the electoral process and gather up ballots.

If there is possibility of a breakdown in any or all of these, the outcome is and should be considered suspect.
