Quote from: mkd on May 27, 2022, 06:10 AMTaking their drivel propaganda at face value is doing just that

I think that some times our confirmation bias doesn't allow us to see the forest through the trees.  This might not be one of those times.  I don't know that we will ever know for sure? We live in an age now where even when something is proven, we can find something that challenges the information and we choose to believe what we want to.

That's why most of us will never believe Yodoug when he tries to talk sense in to us. That's why we are willing to accept lies from one politician but call them out from another.

You could be right. But you could be wrong.

I read where she went to a neighbor and called.

Oh I'm right, Mister!!!!!🤪🤣

100% of these medical 'studies' are written to vilify an inanimate object. That's a stat you can stick in your pipe and smoke😎🤣

I'm not sure what they had to gain by vilifying vehicle deaths?  Or heart disease? Or cancer deaths?

I share your cynicism though. That's why I asked. Most of you fuckers here are a lot smarter than I am.

The same can be said for 100% fictitious climate change hysteria.

Police slow to engage with gunman because 'they could've been shot,' official says???

So then just let the shooter continue to shoot children?  UGH.

Before you shit on the source, there is a video.

Quote from: thad on May 27, 2022, 02:45 AMSadly, sometimes "waiting for the official investigative report" means waiting for them to come up with their story.
We have two REALLY bad possibilities. That's a fair assessment.

But the first report 99x out of 100x being wrong... that bullshit HAS to stop. Cover-ups are criminal, and contrary to popular belief are pretty rare. Bad first reports I think a FAR more damaging and get no retractions even though lives and reputations are destroyed with them AND are common as fuck! Put yourself on the receiving end of that bullshit. How would YOU like your personal life to be destroyed based on that bad first report?

I guess the moral of the story here is in tragic stressful situations don't talk to people, ESPECIALLY the media. Kinda like if a fed wants to talk to you, there should be only be a ONE word to pass over your lips regardless of the situation; "LAWYER".

Some people think ACAB so no matter what, that is the mindset and there is NO changing it no matter what. Personally, I've had some negative interactions with law enforcement in my life, some were the result of me being an idiot and others... I don't know. Maybe the guy was human and having a bad day.

Quote from: neurosis on May 27, 2022, 05:44 AMthe study came from the New England journal of medicine.

I'd still like to know if this is true. If it is, then this is really a sad statistic.

Torturing language and statistics has become sport. I like to read statistics because I'm nerdy about stuff like that, and they can absolutely be twisted to highlight ANYTHING the user of said statistics wants to show.

The NEJAMA absolutely has an anti-gun bias. They will open focus or narrow focus in order to advance or retard an agenda. They've shown it time and time again.

A statistic you will NEVER see (partly because method of reporting would be difficult at best) are the number of lives saved as a result of firearms.

Based on following the links provided I was able to dig this little nugget up;

Follow the money.

Somebody in the statistics chain has a mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend in the business of vehicle safety, pharmaceuticlas, etc...

We often fail to recall we are a nation of 350,000,000 people. And while every life (except criminals... fuck those guys) ending prematurely is an individual tragedy, we have lost sight of the fact there are 350,000,000 opportunities for something to go wrong. That's A LOT or opportunities. People talk about "passenger flight is dangerous"... while driving... which is 7x more dangerous when looking at the number of transportation hours for a given mode.

The reality is we're going to have around as many traffic accident deaths as we will have firearms related deaths. We have hundreds of millions of firearms in this nation that we know of. We have hundreds of millions of motor vehicls in this country. Lots and lots, and lots of opportunities for somethign to go wrong. Both things are dangerous but it is extremely hypocritical to turn a blind eye to one and put the scanning electron microscope to the other. Not that any of us here are doing that, but the media is, Hollywood is, politicians are, and constitution hating leftists are.

I didn't look at that yet.. I will when I have more time. I notice that the year say's 2020.

The study was specifically talking about 2022 (this year).  Last year, vehicles were still the leading deaths for children under 19.

That doesn't mean that this is a trend? Hopefully.  Next year it could easily go back to vehicles.
