An older engineer friend of mine (now retired) once said that "in 100 years CAD will actually be really cool"....I believe at the time he had been "encouraged" by a customer to buy a seat of ProE (about $20K at the time IIRC), and struggled for quite a bit as an ex-Vellum user (on a Mac, no less). I think what really burnt his biscuits was when ~ 6 months after he bought it, they dropped the price of his seat to about $8K, as Solidworks was starting to gain traction. He was *not* a happy camper about this!

I don't remember him blaming his tools, but he was sure frustrated going from a 2D drafting tool on a Mac to a 3D parametric modeler on a PC!

I think going to 3D software is always a big leap, early on, I really didn't do much modelling, I would get 2D wireframe drawings and have to redraw them in Mastercam, and the parts were simple, moving into 3D geometry, I was surprised at all the issues I had with converted models, that school doesn't prepare you for, i.e. re-drawing complex surfaces and such

Haven't heard from, or about him in years..... and that's a good thing.

He is retired I believe, I still see him posting shady comments online about MAstercam from time to time.

Oh wow....I had a feeling it might be that fellow. I didn't know there was such animosity directed towards individual people-that's too bad. I wasn't aware anybody knew where he was from, either....just "the internet."

Yeah, he threw A LOT venom and lies my way over the years. I kept a file. He ended up crossing a few legal lines. If I ever need to, I've got enough on him to sue him into oblivion.

Rumor has it he got out of manufacturing.

It started long before that. A lot of these guys used to hang out on usenet back in the early 2000's. alt.machines.cnc  JB was a regular poster back in those days. There were some pretty hilarious threads. Usenet was basically unmoderated so you can imagine that there were some colorful conversations.  

He was a Mastercam user at least for a while.

I used to lurk in there. I never posted. I started my public online presence with eMC. A friend of mine used to go toe to toe with him often on there. Those guys in there were SALTY AF.

The couple of people I remember the most were Tim, and Joe.  I didn't know who they were back in those days. Tim was hilarious. I was posting under a different moniker back then. I don't even remember what it was.  It was the original login that I created for EMC back around 2003. 

It's probably a good thing that most of the history from usenet is gone.

This brings back memories. At one point someone with a blog gave him an interview. He wound up creating several accounts in order to praise himself & his answers to the interview. Owner of the blog could see all the comments were coming from the same IP address.

Tons of stories surrounding that guy. Getting punched at Westec. Getting kicked out of Solidworks World...when they threw him out, his briefcase popped open & there wound up being pizza inside.

Why I retain this stuff is beyond me....
