I don't think that's anything new. We've been the laughing stock of most of the world as far as I've known,  pretty much since I've been on the internet back in the mid to late 90's.

My girlfriends daughter and son in law went on a trip to Europe about 6 years ago. They were made fun of everywhere they went for being Americans.

A certain amount of that just comes with being in a differnt culture. I have a family member from Britain, her family came over to visit and spent some time on our horse farm. We had plenty of good laughs at their expense. Same thing happened when some folks from New York City came by one time.

I worked with a guy from Afghanistan, we got along great and were good friends but MAN! did I spend a lot of time chuckling at him. He always tried to use American Slang but always used it in the wrong context.
