Science and reality are going to force everyone that isn't rich to be vegans. The current state of animal agriculture is not sustainable. As the worlds population grows there will not be enough land to support it. Also the waste is doing serious damage to the environment. Ignoring it won't make the problem go away. All ignoring it does is leave a bigger problem for future generations.

We've been eating meat singe forever. Our teeth tell us they were created to eat a wide variety of foods. 

I'll be vegan when hell freezes over.

Actually the Hebrew word used in the original bible text just uses the generic word for fruit. The only other description of the type of fruit is that it was on a tree. It could have been cherries or pears or another fruit.
