There are quite a few States that want to eliminate the Sheriff's department because that have no control over them. Our Sheriff said Fuck You to Governor Whitmer when she wanted people mowing lawns arrested during the Covid 19 "pandemic".

and there are a lot of Feds who want to eliminate state, city and country police altogether and just have Federal police that they have total control over.
They have defacto control over a lot of police agencies already
For years they've been giving local police agencies grants for equipment, training, vehicles, payroll to hire
more officers, etc, etc.
They do this until the grants become an irreplaceable part of the local's budget
Then they threaten to pull the grants if the locals don't toe the line
I suspect this sheriff is being threatened with the loss of grants as we speak

I can see being threatened with loss of grants (if it's being accepted) but I can't see jail time for not releasing constituent's information.
