Since you brought it up, the jan 6th type insurrection theorists have put grandma in solitary confinement after being invited on a stroll through public buildings ( aka halls of congress) by attending capitol police. Wonder why Nancy refused Trump's security concerns?
So yeah, locking up grandma is a verifiable thing that the conspiracy party has done for blue collar usa.

In a nutshell that's my point, none has, but they all claim it....

I'm not sure which is worse. A party that openly doesn't do much to help the middle/lower class, or a party that claims to want to help the middle/lower class but sticks 200 things in a bill that they know people in your own party wont agree on let alone the other party, so you know will never pass.

Oh wait, they both do that too.   :headscratch:

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Alright, I can buy that. Your initial response seemed to suggest the Repugs are now the party of the blue collar worker.

Tell me what anyone in government has done anything for the blue collar worker recently?

I'm not a Bruce fan with the exception of "The River" and "Wreck on the Highway". I wouoldn't go see him in concert.

Its not so much that the Republicans are now the party of the blue collar worker, it s that the Dem's
most assuredly are not.. Open borders drive wages down, open jail doors drive crime up, 9 trillion dollar
build back better bullshit drives inflation to 40 year record highs.. NTFA has turned our schools into trans drag queen parties  while the party elites sneer at the rubes in flyover country. The Republicans have not won blue collar vote.. the Dem's have driven them away

In my local county which is mostly rural, with a suburban feel in the southern portion, things have flipped completely. When my family moved here in 1983 it a democrat county. there was one republican in any local office. He was also the head of the republican party and it was usually the democrat primary that determined the election as, there was no republicans running in most races. We have a GM plant locally, a Boeing Plant, and almost everyone else outside of agriculture works in a construction trade union.  The area is heavily, heavily pro union.

Today it is still heavily pro-union. it has also flipped completely republican. so much so that people who wanted to keep their jobs had to switch parties or be voted out. the ones who didn't switch are all gone now.  My point is not to say that the republican party has done a lot for the working man, my point is that the working man has changed his mind about the parties.

Although, I could point to some things that have helped blue collar workers. Trump's trade war with China has done a lot here locally to help manufacturing. I remember union members wanting tariffs on China for years in the 90's but Dems and Republicans both were pushing free trade at the time. I guess we are in a recession now, depending on who you talk to, but you'd never know it here as far as overtime goes.

The Trump Tax cuts helped middle class families, and so did the cheap gas prices during the Trump administration. Rich people don't really care about gas prices. The corporate tax cuts created a hiring frenzy that brought unemployment with minorities to a record low.

My father-in-law, became a millionaire AFTER he retired because of the stock market performance. He was a union meat cutter who saved his money well and had a good pension. Although he'd never give Trump credit for that because he is a dyed in the wool democrat.  Biden's policies have turned him back into a middle class man again. :)

I do remember Missouri being a very purple state, probably more blue than purple. Today it's solid red for whatever reason. You saying your area is strongly union is somewhat surprising to me because Republicans in general despise unions. But union jobs are usually good paying, high quality jobs.

As far as Trumps tariffs helping your area I can't say. I will say they could be a factor in the inflation we're seeing today. Raising prices on resources raise prices on everything and creating a scarcity of resources also forces prices higher.

As for being in a recession I'm not sure about that either. I guess you can find whatever stats you need to prove what ever point you want to make. But it seems unemployment is pretty low now and companies are having a hard time finding employees.

The Trump tax cuts were primarily permanent giveaways to business that helped the debt sky rocket. The old Republican claim they'll pay for themselves didn't materialize....again. (And they were possibly a part of the inflation we're seeing today?) The individual tax cuts are set to expire soon.

As far as the stock market and gas prices, I think people have a tendency to give the President much more credit or blame for conditions than they should be given.  People will heap praise on Trump for the economy during his term. (On a side note, the people who do that also refuse to acknowledge he inherited a healthy economy :) )

I guess Biden's policies are so bad they're pretty much tanking the whole world's economy because it is a worldwide wave right now.

The funny thing is my Canadian family like to post stuff about Trudeau's policies causing the problems in Canada. It seems every country has people who think it's not a global economic downturn, it's just their leaders and their country. :)
