Same here. A lot of punk music I listen to I am diametrically opposed to politically, but dayum it's good music so I listen. Especially Dead Kennedys and Social Distortion.

Back in that era I totally went the other direction.  I went metal.

I missed out on a lot of the great punk stuff.  I'm not sure that I regret it totally?   I did listen to bands like DRI and Corrosion of Conformity.  More metal punk.

I started playing guitar back in 86.  Metallica was my favorite band.  My friends called me Dave Hetfield because I learned the first 3 albums by ear. 

It wasn't until I got a little older until I branched out.  lol.  Trying to be diplomatic.

I'll give you an example.  The best songs that they play are cover tunes.

There are other very good songs, but I believe these are their best work. If I had to add one more it would be Master of Puppets.

I started playing guitar back in 86.  Metallica was my favorite band

went to HS with a similar guy. I was in awe of him riffing master of puppets probably the summer of 86. That was my first exposure to it. Kinda hard to imagine living with no internet or cable tv. Didn't have much in the way of cassette tape supply🤣.
 Your best friend was the guy with a dual cassette deck. Hi technology,hi fidelity baby.
 Guitar is an infernal contraption and anyone that can master it is a God as far as I'm concerned.

Master of Puppets was the last album I liked from them. And Justice for All was a studio album and they could barely play most of the songs all the way through live until years later.  When they came out with the Black album I just couldn't listen to them anymore.    I think that Damage Inc was my favorite Metallica song.

I followed Megadeth  because of Dave Mustaine being in Metallica in those early years.  Rust in Peace was one of the best metal (that type of metal) albums I'd ever heard.
