Anyone use an Android version of an air tag for traveling?

I may be going to Italy at the end of the year and I'd like to get some kind of tracking tag for my luggage and possibly some other personal items.

I've been looking at the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 but not sure that it wouldn't be better to get one that isn't exclusively tied to the Samsung network of phones?

Air tags rely on the population of nearby iPhones for a sort of mesh network
If you don't have the numbers of phones, not sure they would have any utility.
I could be totally wrong 😕

It's the same with the Samsung tags and any of the other Android tags out there.  It not only relies on other people using those phones to be around, but I believe that they also have to be opted in? That's what concerns me about the Galaxy SmartTag2. Much smaller network although Samsung phones are very popular. Something like 30% of the market share.
