So the question is why would he feel he had to live a lie?

The answer is to conform to society "norms."

I think it's understandable that people no longer want to live a lie and don't want to be discriminated against because of that choice.

So my point is not to convert people to different appetites. it's to encourage them to find their "wholeness" through a different means, namely to live for something bigger than carnal desires.

I think it's just fine if somebody can choose "spirituality" over carnal desires (natural sexual appetites) and live a happy, fulfilling life.

But I believe the reality of that goal has not played out well in real life. Perhaps, as a catholic, you can help me identify a large organization (perhaps religious) that requires exactly that from its spiritual leaders and has experienced, well, let's just call them "issues" as a result.

That would be a false assumption.  If your genetics or epigenetics are edited after puberty, your body will not immediately transform according to the new program like in the movies.  The structures have already been built, the code has been executed.  Even if changing the epigenetics at that point could be effective, you would have to edit every strand of DNA in the nervous system at least, possibly in the whole body.  Telling someone to feel bad about themselves does not edit their epigenetics.

People are by and large not being persecuted for having sex, whether they're binary or not.  People are being persecuted for acting and dressing other than their biological gender, or for allowing it to be known that they do not identify according to strict conservative gender norms.  That is what is currently being pushed back against.

The catholic church has definitely had corruption in the ranks. So far, 4 percent of all priests have been accused of abuse. Nearly all of it has been homosexual abuse. Something to be grasped. Especially since 4 percent of the general population self reports as gay.
Many of the bishops have protected these criminals rather than protecting the victims. Eerily similar to leftwing prosecutors today. But nothing excuses their actions and cover up.

That said, just because judas betrayed Jesus, doesn't make Jesus's teachings wrong. It only means judas was corrupt.
