Wow...that IS old school! 
Kind of a home-made screw machine.

I'm digging the 3 jaw chuck being held in a 4 jaw chuck...

The old school calipers (no dial)...

And the shorts, flip-flops, and complete lack of safety glasses or any safety equipment at all!

And of course, the grooving tool itself.
That's what guys had to do before all these new-fangled CNC machines came along!

There is a local engineering company that has an old WW2 German twin head mill, that was a "war prize". Still has the Nazi eagles on the castings. It came out of a tank plant in Germany apparently. Still going strong all these years later.
