The car's exhaust looked really cool in the infrared display,
especially that Maserati when the kid launched it.

Even a professional race driver will crash in a long enough high speed run on city streets. There are too many variables that are unknown to the driver, road debris, dips, bumps, cracks, uneven surfaces, etc. All of those at high speed will cause a crash and at those speeds they come up faster than a human can react.

The neighborhood did not look like Maserati country to me

Don't bait cars have hidden cameras and microphones inside of them to gather evidence? And also a kill switch as mentioned above. At least from all of the bait car videos I've seen.
Either way, the owner is a moron for leaving the keys in it. But if it wasn't that car it would have been another. They weren't strangers to crime.

And in one of the pics at least one of the kids was wearing a skimask. So they weren't just out for an evening stroll. Bait car or not, those idiots had it coming. Let's just hope they didn't get a chance to reproduce before extermination.
