edit: rephrase

Today I learned that Alex Jones sentence wasn't due to being guilty of libel and slander. They're just trying to censor free speech.

I'd hope that there are better examples that could be used for free speech violations?

I mean, if you went around spreading a rumor that using Mastercam gives you genital warts and they sued the shit out of you, would you say "they're just trying to violate my free speech rights!"?  :D

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Free speech isn't subjective, you either have it or you don't...
The only thing standing between you and an evil regime are your rights to speak, big government wants to silence people like alex jones who speak out against their tyranny, he is just a big fish in the pond, nothing more

Speaking of free speech... who's been following the recent PayPal scandal??
They released a EUL stating they could fine PayPal customers $2500 for wrongthink and wrongspeech.
Then they rescinded it, offering an abject apology... but they really didn't .. they just buried
their fascist behavior in few more layers of weasel words.
I plan to close my PayPal account this weekend.

There are reasons that they put limitations on what we consider "free speech". When you use your platform to defame someone, you've crossed a line.  You can destroy someone's life by spreading lies about them.  You can destroy a business by spreading lies about it.  Do you think that it should be perfectly fine to spread what ever lies you want about someone, no matter how it affects them, and be able hide behind "free speech"?

Here some examples of free speech limitations. Tell me which ones you disagree with.

incitement (including incitement to suicide), Harassment, defamation (includes libel and slander), fraud, child pornography, intimidation, threats -

None of these things should be limited under the umbrella of "free speech"?

I would agree that there are some slippery slopes when it comes to violating free speech. In my opinion, this isn't one of them, nor is it an example of it.  Alex Jones should have stuck with his "the water is turning the frogs gay" conspiracy.

We have stopped using PayPal since their announcement, which they said was a mistake.

Exactly!! But if you are a media source it's called "Freedom of the press"

and Alex Jones is MEDIA.

Just to be clear.

I have NEVER watched him on any source.

so, I can say truthfully, I am Unbiased.

You have to prove it was defamatory and planned.

planned is the keyword.

With all due respect - Horse shit.

QuoteConditional Privilege Does Not Guarantee Immunity for Reporters

The First Amendment emerged from the fundamental principle that public discussion is a political duty. In a defamation case brought by a public official against her critics, conditional privilege protects most speech made in good faith and in the public interest.

"Good faith" means the speaker must believe his or her comment is true, without recklessly failing to discern its falsity. Journalists are protected from defamation claims when their publication fairly comments on matters of public concern. But if the media knowingly or recklessly publishes false information, the privilege is lost.

Well then Alex Jones fucked up when he admitted that Sandyhook wasn't a hoax.

There is a reason that journalists (Alex is no journalist - he's a bloviating twit) use words like alleged. Alex acted like he knew and tried to convince people that he knew Sandyhook was a hoax with zero proof. He called the parents actors when there was no proof they were actors. He deserves everything he gets.  Personally, I think he should be tied to a chair and locked in a room with the parents.

Again, all about the radical alt left and big government crushing free speech and silencing anyone who doesn't agree with them.
