Leaving tonight for deer camp. My 8 year old grandson is hunting with us this year. First time he gets to use a gun. I got him this rifle to use, and MAN! is this thing a sweet rifle.

AR15 style in a 300 blackout caliber. extendable stock which is nice for youth because he can grow with the gun and almost no recoil.  And we can switch to the 223 barrel and make use it for coyotes.

You bought your grandson an evil black rifle? What kind of grandparent are you? 😛

LOL no I bought it for me, but he gets to use it once in a while. 8)

I have echoes of Elizabeth Warren saying: "You can't deer hunt with a rifle that big if you do you'll cook it at the same time."

although she was talking about the 223 caliber which is the smallest caliber possible to hunt deer here in Missouri.

Deer are running crazy around my neighborhood. We had four in our back yard yesterday and three ran out in front of me while I was driving down a country road on my way home.

You could use a 9mm and blow the lungs right out of the body like PedoJoe says.

no doubt that is a sweet rifle, but there's just something off to me about deer hunting with 'tactical' styled firearms. Seems a bit less classy, call me ol fashioned.

Same with, I'd prefer to shoot duck from a canoe for a variety of reasons, but a big one is the ritual of getting the canoe and paddle cleaned up, moving through marsh and the way it looks by a blind.

to each their own, but for a young kid, if you can keep the recoil down and adjust the stock, that is really worth something. I look at it like, whether a young kid should start playing guitar on an electric or acoustic. If you want the kid to really take off, electric is the way to go.

Elk don't know how many feet a horse has.

Or what an AR looks like.
