Looks and feel yeah, of course it does. Hunting for me is about enjoying the outdoors, and having some kind of urban-styled rifle is just, tacky?

If I am being honest, no, unless I was feral hog hunting, outside of "need," a different platform would be my 1st choice.

That said, though it's not my 1st choice, other will do as others may.

Tacky, no.

My personal preference is a wood stock with a good sheen to it, but almost nobody hunts with those anymore either. all synthetic nowadays.  But I have to say, I'm a little impressed with your ole fashioned  conservative gun ideals. LOL

I don't get the whole Jeep thing either. I think with the Gladiator they were trying to recapture their earlier pick ups.

Friend of mine back in the day had something like this.

Not quite as nice but the thing was a beast.

I'm in a shotgun only zone, so I've been stuck with shotguns my entire deer hunting life.  Until I figured out that pistols are also legal, when I built an AR style "pistol".  It's so much nicer to carry through the woods than a traditional styled rifle or shotgun.  Much more forgiving (on the wallet AND the shoulder) to practice with than a shotgun, so I am much more accurate.  Most of my shots are at moving deer under 100 yards though, so having something that's quick to bring to the shoulder and get on target makes a huge difference in being able to get a shot off or let the deer go.

Our party usually shoots 15-25 deer per year, and with a shotgun I might get one or two of those.  I've shot 15 in the last 2 years, so needless to say I won't be going back to a shotgun if I can help it.

beej, if you fancy chootin' something bigger, I have a .458 SOCOM that could work..

Years ago Indiana decided we could choot deers with a rifle as long as it was chambered in a 'pistol' caliber. They defined pistol caliber as over .35" in diameter with a shell casing under 1.8". All of the sudden, gun dealers couldn't keep .458SOCOM uppers in stock. I snagged a middy and a carbine length used and built these for me and a buddy...

The amount of deer us and our kids have killed with these is ridiculous. And not a one ever walked over 10 feet after being hit.

We can now hunt with about any rifle caliber, but .458SOCOM is still my deer rifle of choice. When hunting in the woods or shooting under 150 yards, it's hard to beat it.

The only bad part about hunting with ARs is those things get fuckin COLD.

I've been trying to get the wife to sew me up a fleece 'sock' to fit over the aluminum hand guard on my .458.

Even with gloves on, I usually let mine sit on the shooting sticks and keep my hands off that thing.
