The one he said was $75000 is at a large shopping mall and, according to him, gives a full charge in 30 minutes.
He didn't say how much for the home charger.

I have no personal knowledge of any of this stuff. The driver seemed quite proud of his car and talked about it the whole trip, prompted by questions from me.

That would make sense. To charge full in 30 minutes requires power in the range of what a big machine tool is going to need.

In a semi related issue, Scientists just announced a major breakthrough in fusion power. Until this latest breakthrough the power to contain the fusion reaction was basically as much as the power output. The recent released data shows a 50% increase in power output. IMO, this is the real tech that will change cars and energy. For reference the time between the first nuclear fission reactor 5 minute test run to the first nuclear power plant going online was about 15 years.

I just saw this. Not much reporting on it.

QuoteTo put out these very hot fires can take thousands of gallons of water to put out. Tesla's emergency response guide says between 3,000 to 8,000 gallons of water are necessary to extinguish an EV fire. For gas-powered vehicles, it takes on average around 1,000 gallons of water to put out a fire.

Some places are even digging holes and pushing the vehicle into it, filling the hole with water, and letting it sit for a few days. Once a lithium battery pack is on fire it's almost impossible to stop. I've heard pouring salt into the vehicle can help but you need a lot of salt.

i heard it's more effective to push it over the cliff with a pair of dead strippers inside.

I haven't checked with Alexa but I'm sure you can fit more than a pair...

It was just watercooler talk but, Cali is different from sane places.
The idiots that run this state have decommissioned so many fossil fuel and nuke plants that they cannot produce enough electricity to keep the lights on when demmand goes up.
They are even tearing down renewable power sources (hydroelectric power with water supplied by dams).
The end result is they have to buy dirty power from out of state at market prices.
My power bill has tripled this year. I cannot imagine what my employer is paying for electricity.
There is a multimillion square foot warehouse complex that was completed this summer that turned into a legal slugfest when the power company refused to supply power stating they did not have adequate supply
for the new complex. I don't know how that turned out.
Another factor is the wild fires we've had over the last few years.
The power company was found liable for several of them to the tune of billions in judgments against the power company. The power company has responded by declaring bankruptcy and grinding every last dime out
of it's customers... We are governed by idiots.
