I could clean them out with my pellet rifle pretty quick, but they are not hurting anything,
and the divorce lawyer would be very expensive.
Fortunately, the neighborhood cats keep the population down to a manageable size.

We used to have a pair of Jack Russells roaming the yard. They kept them in check.

They are gone now and the basset hound and golden-labra-bernese-cockadoodle mutt just don't serve as much deterence.

We are 300+ plus yards of corn fields from the nearest woods or oak tree, but have a black walnut that's having a bumpercrop this year. That seems to bring them in.

I have a live and let live attitude with them for the most part. The big fox squirrels are funny. They get downright obese from living on walnuts. They are so fat that when they sit upright their gut hangs over their feet. They keep to the trees for the most part.

The piney squirrels, the one in the pic, are different. They will come up on the porch and deck and chew up chair cushions and blankets. When they do that, the wife orders a hit on them. I had got three with grandpa's Winchester .22 out of the upstairs bathroom window. The little bastard in the trap was the smartest one. I missed him several times. He knew not to stop running between the walnut tree and the old barn he was living in.

Threw the trap, with a dig ole blob of peanut butter on it, in a hole in a maple tree that he was stashing walnuts in. I let him hang there a couple days to serve as a warning to his peeps.

I was in the kitchen of a friends house; we heard a bang on the back door. My friend went and got a cookie and went to open the door. When he did, there stood a squirrel. The squirrel took the cookie and ran off. My friend said he does this every day.
