Fun fact, the "bloom coating" on the outside of the egg shell actually protects the egg from diseases like salmonella. The washing and basic sterilization is what opens it up to that stuff.

My girlfriends daughter has some chickens and gives us eggs every few weeks. She told us about that when she first started sending them over. Took some time to get used to it.
