QuoteA study published Wednesday shows just how bad the environmental damage will be if the United States switches to EVs while maintaining our current lust for large, personal vehicles.

I'm shocked. 😱

Just saw the article below today. The Dems want so badly to turn everything electric in lieu of fossil fuels. But they also don't want any mining. Not lithium, but Northern MN has a lot of copper and nickel. Both used extensively in EV cars. Where the heck are we supposed to get all the materials if we can't mine?

Just listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Siddarth Kara, that will open your eyes about EVs and the mining behind them if they aren't open already.

I was surprised to see a left leaning media source (The Guardian) criticizing EV's until I saw this part of the article -

QuoteThe largest reduction will come from changing the way we get around towns and cities – fewer cars, more walking, cycling and public transit made possible by denser cities – followed by downsizing vehicles and recycling batteries.

It can be done: cities around the world have already begun to reduce car use in order to improve air pollution, road safety and quality of life. In Paris, car use declined nearly 30% from 2001 to 2015, while in London it fell by nearly 40%.

I mean, they're probably right, but having someone who never takes public transportation (our politicians) telling me that I should be taking public transportation when they have no idea what it's like to have to spend an extra two hours a day to commute to work, can go suck an egg.

America was built by the expansion that came from the freedom that comes from the car. Most of our major cities have huge populations in suburbs that can't reasonably be serviced by public transit.

Wait, so you're saying the hundreds of politicians, billionaires, and others who flew hundreds of private planes to Zurich, only to hop on a private Helicopter to fly an hour to Davos, then hop into a private Suburban to drive another 15 minutes to the WEF were a bunch of hypocrites? Say it ain't so!?!?!

........and local zoning laws that prevent mixed use and dense affordable housing. Kali state implemented some ADU laws. well see how htat goes.

redwood recycling will process 95% of lithium, etc back into new batteries. Once the fleet is built out, mining goes away

As soon as ALL of those shitbird politicians get rid of their vehicles and take public transportation, I may take them seriously. Until then... it's a clown world they live in.

Even in a decent sized city like Seattle, the public transportation system blows. I considered taking public transportation to work after they added the light rail.  I can get in to Seattle pretty easily in a short amount of time but that's where the convenience ends.

I mapped out the route from my house to where I work and It would take a total of 2 hours each direction and I would still have to drive 6 miles to the light rail station.  It takes me less than half of that time to drive and I don't have to deal with crack addicts taking free rides on the light rail.

Until they can fix that, I don't see public transportation, even in a city like Seattle, an option.

I think that is the real problem with mass transit in America. Most people would still have to keep and maintain a car to get to mass transit locations. On top of the cost of that car you then have to pay for mass transit and live by their schedule.

Let's be real. Government only makes things worse in the vast majority of things.

I could take a bus to that light rail station, but it would take an additional 45 minutes so that would raise my daily commute to almost 3 hours each direction.

I work 10 hour days so I would be dedicating 16 hours a day, 4 days a week, to work and commuting to work.

My mother-in-law saw that first hand. She voted for Obama. She was a cafeteria cook at a public school, when Michelle O started the healthy eating thing. they were forced to start serving more fresh vegetables, but fresh vegetable are expensive compared to mixed vegetables from a can. So their budget went up, which caused the cooks not to get raises. the kids just ate what the liked and threw all of the expensive fresh veggies in the trash, and started eating vending machine snacks. So then the school got rid of the vending machine snacks, and then the kids started complaining that they were hungry in class. So the school started having snack time in class rooms. Some of the kids didn't bring their own snacks so the cooks had to start making PB&J sandwiches for all of the kids who didn't bring a snack.

at some point you'd think someone would take a step back and say wait a minute!!! but it's government, so no one ever does.

Same thing in Militaryapolis. The light rail is awesome if you want to go see a game or concert as it stops and leaves right at the venues. But if you want to go to work or wherever else, it's at least a 15 minute walk to anywhere else, very few stops actually near workplaces. Most people would have to hop on a bus that stops at a station, wait for a train, take the train to wherever, then likely wait to hop on another bus to wherever you want to go. Then reverse that. Spending 4 hours a day on public transportation to go to and from work is ridiculous, and forget it if it snows. It's moronic if anyone thinks most people will do that.
