She was a cafeteria cook at a public school, when Michelle O started the healthy eating thing. they were forced to start serving more fresh vegetables, but fresh vegetable are expensive compared to mixed vegetables from a can. So their budget went up, which caused the cooks not to get raises. the kids just ate what the liked and threw all of the expensive fresh veggies in the trash, and started eating vending machine snacks. So then the school got rid of the vending machine snacks, and then the kids started complaining that they were hungry in class. So the school started having snack time in class rooms. Some of the kids didn't bring their own snacks so the cooks had to start making PB&J sandwiches for all of the kids who didn't bring a snack.

at some point you'd think someone would take a step back and say wait a minute!!! but it's government, so no one ever does.

Wait, so kids don't just eat whatever is put in front of them? Say it ain't so!!!

Surprised they didn't put carrots and celery into the vending machines.....

This is another case where I agree with Dems on the issue, but their policy to handle the issue is ridiculous. If someone did an investigation into the money train for Big Mike's school lunch health program that you wouldn't find massive graft like every other Dem program. They just indicted a group of people here in MPLS that were scamming the state for millions of dollars to supposedly feeds kids.

The city I grew up in and now live just outside of has grown to a population of 220,000+. There is no public transportation except for buses. Good luck not having a car.

it should be handled locally at the school board level. Not the Federal level. If a local school finds something that works for them. Other school boards should try to implement it at their own schools.

Do you actually think that the people/companies who profit from the lithium mining will just suddenly stop?
That's not gonna happen.

Fuck EV's and fuck the people who are pushing it on us.

What's the life of EV batteries and the cost to replace them?

Don't know about other car companies, but Toyota warranties theirs for 100,000 miles / 8 Years whichever comes first.  Cost will vary by capacity and availability.

I still think hydrogen will eventually be the big winner. The University of South Wales has converted a diesel engine to run 90% hydrogen and 85% less CO2. Of course  that may not be good enough for the wokies.

Quote from: neurosis on January 27, 2023, 06:36 AMI could take a bus to that light rail station, but it would take an additional 45 minutes so that would raise my daily commute to almost 3 hours each direction.

I work 10 hour days so I would be dedicating 16 hours a day, 4 days a week, to work and commuting to work.
That woudl be a HARD NO WAY!

Quote from: neurosis on January 27, 2023, 06:03 AMI mapped out the route from my house to where I work and It would take a total of 2 hours each direction and I would still have to drive 6 miles to the light rail station.  It takes me less than half of that time to drive and I don't have to deal with crack addicts taking free rides on the light rail.

I could take the train to work but besides adding the extra time and having to tailor my work schedule to the train schedule I would have to keep a vehicle at each end of the train ride to get back and forth to the station. Not only would that add cost but they would probably get stolen even if I used a beater.

Welcome to your opinion, of course.
People Don't realize the revolution underway. First time in history people will be able to power their own vehicles delivered from the Great fireball in the suky for free once your solar panels are paid off. That's the ultimate FU.
Once enough large chunks of a lithium where there, people don't just throw them away with their cell phones, it'll be self-sustaining.
Once enough wind and solar are installed, power utilities monopoly goes away. Free internet and EV charging will be had at Starbucks.

Please tell me an industry that just stops making an item once it's in the hands of everyone. I'll wait....

And here is what 95% of the cobalt mining looks like that is in each and every EV and lithium battery made.

Poorly worded on my part.
When is the last time you paid a long distance phone bill? There is greater than zero chance the electric utilities will see a similar disruption. Hope I live long enough to see the day.
I'm not trying to win an argument, just putting out a possible future.
Feel free to laugh at it. Lol.

But if we're talking the elements for batteries, once there is enough for the devices they can be continuously recycled. Remember it's the dendrites on the cathode that makes them age.
Lithium iron phosphate batteries have double the cycle life.
Cheaper sodium batteries are on the horizon.

In 50 years maybe.
The idea is good but the problem is they're trying to put the technology in place before it's ready to support the power demand.
Once they improve the technology and develop others efficiently then it will be feasible to replace fossil fuel but it's just not ready yet.
