Wow-sounds like there's a good story to be told; can you discuss any of this here? I get it if you can't, but sure am curious!

In the grand scheme of thing not really important. There are plenty who know the real story behind all of it. Rather not rehash it.

Quote from: Brian on February 15, 2023, 11:08 AMYeah, I've met quite a few "college grads" that (mostly) seem to have mastered the art of taking tests well....thinking creatively, being adaptable, etc., ....eh, not so much!

My girlfriend's college roommate is majoring in mechanical engineering. She's in some kind of manufacturing class this semester, and they put the students on machines (I imagine they're just bridge ports and manual lathes).

The roommate is enjoying the class but the professor told her most students hate the class because they don't view it as "engineering".

I've often wondered why folks go into mechanical engineering if they don't have at least *some* interest in getting their hands dirty, or fixing/making stuff? And I wonder how much of this is generational, or how it maps to gender? (Though I have known some pretty handy female engineers, rare, but they're out there!).

The saddest part of that is for the most part, the most successful and knowledgeable mechanical type engineers (Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical) are the ones that know how to "do". They aren't necessarily journeymen at their discipline, but when push comes to shove they can get on a machine and not embarrass or injure themselves to get something done. Today's youth appear to be above such things.

Awesome how???
I saw that they have a pretty competitive (borrowed not native) renishaw probing integration. Tracking all recent probe points is apparently very available and straight forward, as someone very knowledgeable told me last week. Not sure how useful that is.🤔
Seemed like it was an accurate enough 3+2 mill.
Not sure what is special about them. Meh.
Okuma build quality is a big plus.

I remember thinking like that when I was in engineering school, getting humbled in manufacturing process class.
 Been getting humbled ever since.

It's great, though! There's always something new to learn or explore! It doesn't have to be a negative experience, but I think I understand what you meant. I only get my nose outta joint when my stupidity costs me money!
