After having mine stolen a couple of months ago, I agree.

It wasn't so much the cost of replacing the converter that pissed me off, which is ridiculous in itself, but the damage they did to the truck cutting it off.

Back in the day I had thieves hit my 1980 something Thunderbird.
They broke a opera window in the back but couldn't reach the door lock, so they broke the driver's window to gain access.
They ruined the door speakers, the back grill speakers and destroyed the dash board trying to get the cassette player/radio out. They succeeded, but it was so badly damaged they left it behind.
In a last effort to turn a profit the pulled a post out of the battery trying to get the cables off.
When it was all over, they got a flashlight out of the dash and a rotten spare tire.
The insurance company offered me bluebook for it, which was next to nothing.
I replaced the broken windows and battery and drove if for another year.
I had worked hard for that car, it was paid for and I couldn't afford to replace it at the time.
I'd have happily killed the SOB who did that and never missed a second's sleep over it.

Years ago I had a Jeep Cherokee that I left at a local garage to have some work done.
The converter thieves hit the garage at night and stole 5 or 6 converters, one of which was mine.

When they ripped it loose, they also ripped out wires that went into the transmission.
Long story short, after getting the original work done, and the CC replaced, I had frequent and ongoing transmission issues with that vehicle until I eventually had to trade it in.
