Quote from: Sharles post_id=2928 time=1610371018 user_id=104You guys seem to miss the REASON that Parler was removed: the uncensored calls for violence and violenting overthrowing the incoming Biden administration. I'm all for free speech, but it is not an absolute freedom. SCOTUS has made clear that our rights don't allow us to transgress other's safety. The old 'we can't cry fire in an a theatre' is typically stated. Parler refused to moderate those calling for violent removal of any and all who stood in Trump's way for a 2nd term (including Pence and McConnell)is the only reason they were removed, not all the half-baked conspiracy theories being promulgated on it. And I'm tired of people playing "what violence? I didn't see any calls for violence?" Ignorance isn't an excuse. I've seen plenty of screen shots and I have family members who have gone onto Parler and been spouting the rhetoric. So claim ignorance, but I'm not buying it.

So funny.

Want to know how many Jan. 6th capital rioters were posting on Parler?

ZERO.

The planning was done on Facebook.

Want to ban Facebook Sharles??????????????

Pathetic.

I've spent a very small amount of time looking for the posts that lead to Parler being shut down.  I couldn't find anything worth while.

What exactly was it that got the site "cancelled".

Actually, I'd be just fine with banning Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: I haven't been on Facebook for months, de-activated my account, and rarely ever used it in the first place. Never used the other 2. I've always seen them as drivel, as all these social media platforms just tend to break us into partisan groups that refuse to dialogue with anyone on the outside. Are the standards evenly applied? I didn't say they were, but all you guys can do is pout that your team doesn't get to do what their team SHOULDN'T be doing either. We don't deserve the Republic our Founding Fathers gave us: neither side is willing to do the hard work to keep it...and I'm afraid with what I've seen in the last 12 years, it may not last in its current form for much longer. I truly hope I'm wrong.

When will these companies be seen as publishers? They are sure acting like it.

I used to have a twitter account a long time ago. I stopped using twitter because I started to realize that most of what I was reading was either nonsense or just toxic.

I keep a facebook account because I've been estranged from most of my family since I was 11 years old.  It's probably the only reason that I know some of them now.

I've had no reason to set up a Parler account.  Sitting in a Conservative echo chamber just isn't my cup of tea.

Personally, and just my opinion, none of those places are good for keeping  yourself informed on current events or politics.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Twitter stock down over -11% now. Good.for.them.

Facebook down -4%. Serves.them.right.

Amazon down close to -2%. Its.a.start.

That's the Section 230 argument in a nutshell.
They ARE publishers when they make editorial decisions, yet they enjoy the luxury of never being held legally accountable as such.

As for the 'hate speech' argument, that is so subjective it can't possibly be held to any kind of legal standard.
For example, an Arab person can say "I hate Jews" with little repercussion.
(Remember the Iranian President's comment about wiping Israel from the map?)
However, if a Jewish person were to say "I hate Arabs", they would be accused of hate speech.

Same for a black person saying "I hate white people".
We all know that is perfectly acceptable, much the same as the 'n-word' being used in everyday conversation within the black community.
We all also know the other side of that coin.

The double standard surrounding so-called 'hate speech' is staggering, and it is COMPLETELY dependent on one's POV.
So for a social media platform to allow one of the above examples and ban the other is completely arbitrary.

Muzzling free speech, even when it is distasteful, is FAR MORE DANGEROUS than allowing people with differing opinions to exchange ideas, then letting those ideas stand or fall on their own merits.

Jim as much as I agree with you and liked your comment, I'm pretty sure this is NOT why Parler got shut down. If someone can show otherwise, then I'd be happy to acknowledge it, but it was the calls for violence and overthrowing the incoming administration that got them shut down.

QuoteAWS provides technology and services to customers across the political spectrum, and we continue to respect Parler's right to determine for itself what content it will allow on its site. However, we cannot provide services to a customer that is unable to effectively identify and remove content that encourages or incites violence against others. Because Parler cannot comply with our terms of service and poses a very real risk to public safety, we plan to suspend Parler's account."

You guys seem to think that just because I support shutting down Parler that somehow that means I think the Right is treated equally with the Left. I don't, and I wish when Facebook, Twitter and Instagram allow threats of violence against the Right, they'd get shut down, too. But as my wife pointed out, AWS is the landlord, and Parler was just a renter. It's the landlord's rules.

Personally, I think the conservatives have a case to make in court about the allowance of threats of violence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram toward the Right, and I'd love to see the courts slap those platforms silly. :cheer:

Quote from: Reko post_id=2912 time=1610365705 user_id=59Parler is an alternative to Twitter... the only real difference being, Parler refuses to censor people.

That means all sides of a political debate can be heard.

In a coordinated effort... Google and Apple removed the Parler app from their platforms... but that wasn't enough.

Parler could have still been reached on the internet itself... so the racketeering had to go up another level.

Parler was paying Amazon for its server storage... so Amazon coordinated to give Parler 24 hours to remove their data... and now... Amazon has delivered the final blow... and Parler has been completely scrubbed from the internet.

A coordinated racketeering play to destroy a competitive business that surely would have been a billion dollar company.

***************************************************************
I love free markets.

Parler was the epitome of that.

Censorship of free speech is at an all-time high... and Parler was making a move to open the market up and provide the sorely needed free speech... but they were targeted and ended.

The remedy?

The courts.

In a free society, the rule of law is essential.

I hope companies that involved themselves in the willful coordination of unfair free market business practices have deep pockets... because Parler will see them in court... I'm sure of that... and when this plays out... Parler will be back... with a valuable lesson learned to set up their own infrastructure... and through lawsuits... with more capital than ever.

Wait, so a free market isn't a free market when it disagrees with you?

In case you haven't been paying attention Amazon has deep pockets.

Yeah well you have to show me Trump's specific words that did that, because I read his speech and his social media posts and I don't see it.
I see a call to protest, as is our Constitutional right.

That's exactly what I was talking about.
Two people can read the same speech, and one hears hate and violence, and the other doesn't.
