The man who changed the high jump technique in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.  RIP

I remember that. He changed the high jump in a big way. It looked silly to watch at first but it sure was effective.

It was a memorable Olympics. Dick Fosbury, Bob Beaman, George Foreman. Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

I was doing track and field at the time . I learned high jump the old way and then switched over. The bar we were using was triangular and the edges weren't dull. I kept landing on the bar and scraped my back pretty badly.

That's how I was shown in grade school and the only way I've ever known. Now I'm gonna have to look up the old way.

FWIW, these days, I can't even run my fat ass to the bar!

That got me in the ear once. Sucker was black and blue for weeks.
