Aitutaki... my wife heard about, and we went there a couple of years ago.

A tropical lagoon, surrounded by uninhabited motus, some that you can paddleboard or kayak to. We spent the day on an island and had it all to ourselves.

Wow. That place looks amazing, and not overly spendy.

Of course from here it's 30-40 hour trip with 3 or 4 layovers and costs over $3K per person. :crazy:

I started reading other answers and wondered why they seemed so simple.
Makes sense now. ::)

Per person is key.

Holy shit, you're not kidding! For me it would be MSP> Seattle> Vancouver> Aucklund> Rarotonga> Aitutaki.
40 hours and $3300/person.

No place is worth that kind of abuse.  :no:

Heh, yeah, from here it isn't too bad. I'm in Christchurch, so it is Christchurch - Auckland - Rarotonga - Aitutaki. Accommodation is relatively expensive there, but the food is cheap, and you can cycle around the whole island, though a small rental car is handy. We'll be heading back there sometime in the near future.

Being in New Zealand, we're used to a lot of travel time to get anywhere (other than the islands or Australia). The USA is 12 hours away (12 to LA or SF, 14 to Houston, or 16 to NY), and the UK/Europe is about 23 hours away. Normally we break the trip up. Last time we went to Europe, we stopped in a Singapore for a couple of days each way.

We're off to Spain/Portugal/France and Iceland in about five weeks time. This time we're flying Christchurch to Dubai (with a quick stopover in Sydney) which is 14 hours flying time, staying the night in Dubai, then flying Dubai to Lisbon (about another 8 hours). That is why when we do head away, we spend a decent amount of time away to make up for the travel time :)

Del.

I'd like to go on one of those yacht's like on Below Deck and be spoiled for a couple days. Hell they leave $20,000 tips on those things.
