Quote from: Newbeeeeâ„¢ on May 08, 2023, 11:24 AMUK has had a 5th column for years -

They actually busted a Chinese government police station in New Your City last month
It was used for managing spies and hunting down Chinese dissidents here in the US.
There are supposedly a half dozen more scattered throughout the US.
They will probably be used to control the 10's of thousands of military aged Chinese men currently
being smuggled over  walking across our southern border

Quote from: Incogneeto on May 08, 2023, 11:47 AMPhilosophical, My Son is in Iraq. How many do you think I would kill to keep him alive and send him home safe?

He is there to protect others. Are you asking me what extent I would go to to protect him?

Lol, are you asking me if I'm questioning your commitment as a father to protect your children?

No.

Maybe it's just me. Sometimes I do consider that much of what I work on are weapons of war. I just want to make sure that what I'm doing aligns with my belief systems. When something that I have a hand in has the potential to kill thousands or millions of people I think that's the least I can do.

As long as there is evil in the world that has no regard for human life or human dignity, someone must stand against it. And, as fucked up as this country is, we are still that someone. And in order to do that we have to have the same or better tools than our enemy has.

Mutually assured destruction is a valid tactic.

And I don't doubt your capacity to question it.

I celebrate it.

For a "Flaming Liberal/progressive" you have the ability to think.

It is much needed in Today's world.

And I appreciate your thoughts. ;)

That was just a "Reko" thing by the way.^^^^^^^^^^^

I have long since learned that you have basis behind your thoughts.

And they are respected. :)

Does it ever give you pause to know you are working on something that could potentially kill thousands of people?

Just curious.
Having worked on projects that could potentially kill hundreds of thousands if not millions, it does give me some pause... but, knowing that wat I have done has on occasion saved our soldier's lives, I derive some satisfaction from that. Our military, often at it's own peril has ROE's in place that minimizes civilian casual. That said war is death. Innocents WILL die. There is no possible waynto eliminate Innocent casualties in war.

I just don't want to be the guy given a Flag in exchange for his Son.

I am proud of him but I don't want the trade.

I would rather let Firepower decide the fight.

Trump was the closest leader we've had to a Gen. Curtia LeMay in a LONG time. He had the right idea. "Mess with the bull, get the horns."

He brought us Mutually Assured Destruction. Love it or hate it, it kept us out of a Hot War which is a plus IMHO but damn... turning Tienamen Square into a fucking glass parking lot does have a certain amount of appeal as opposed to letting those commie bastards infiltrate us because of our lax immigration and birth tourism policies.

Trump not starting any wars, I good with it. If i don't make it, someone else will used to make it ok for me but that logic doesn't work for concentration camp gaurds, so it's a fail.
Our founding fathers fear of standing armies and Eisenhower's speech on the MIC, i'm not good with it.
Knowing what the permanent US gubbamint have done in it's history they simply can't be trusted. Killing a seated president should remove all doubt.

I work for a defense contractor whose main products are helmets and other protective equipment used by our armed forces, as well as those of many of our allies.

We have had many testimonials over the years from Soldiers, Marines, and military pilots who have thanked us because our products directly saved their lives.

Just ONE of those makes me 110% proud to do what we do.

It is true that governments often wage wars that are unjustified, but even in those cases I believe we are still obligated to give our armed forces the best equipment we can produce in order for them to do their job well and trying to minimize the loss of life.

it's not really a philosophical question it's a moral question. But before you could answer a moral question, you'd have to answer for yourself, what your morals are based on.

One of our big products is beer cups. I've no moral issue with that. :)

Please drink responsibly.
