it's about geography.  if they are Australian it's bastids, from they south they are basterds. From Cali, basturds. In missouri we refer to them as Jayhawkers  ;D

Immanence commentary (by me): SPOILER ALERT

I liked it. Entertaining. Never a dull moment.

Bad ratings by most. Why, I wonder?

When you type in a movie you always see the google users ratings. Not for Immanence. Nowhere to be found.

One movie ratings site (quote):

"The Immanence film is set on a contemporary fantasy Earth, where supernatural powers (the God and the Devil) exist"...

Only Amazon I found (with a large user base). It gave a good rating for Immanence...3.7 out of 5.

The movie starts with main character Jonah (there are two, another is a woman, a brilliant scientist who has a very religious mother) in an exorcism. The contorting, growling, possessed person flailing away on the bed as a priest is sprinkling holy water and commanding the demon to come out. Jonah, from the couch observing, then stands up...pulls out his gun...and points it at the 'possessed persons' head. The guy freaks holding up his hands. Jonah walks out (another hoax).

Long story short, the ET signal they discover is actually Satan. The Devil appears in one scene. Jonah earlier on explains Satan no longer terrorizes people because he realized long ago it only strengthened their faith, becoming true believers when they saw enough evidence of the Devil's existence then realizing God must also exist. So the Devil remains quiet, rarely revealing himself.

So, in summary, the movie promotes the idea that the Devil does exist. Hence, the poor ratings by the movie critics.

I think it's worth seeing, regardless of religious beliefs. Its just entertaining..

Found several reviews that describe it as Event Horizon, on a boat.

THAT was a seriously fucked up movie.

I forgot about that one too. That was a good movie.  I wonder if it aged well.

They're in the Bermuda Triangle, also called the Devil's Triangle. So the (one of two) main characters (Jonah - played by Michael Beach) says...the seas are the Devil's domain. That's why Jesus walked on water, to show he has power over the Devil. Also, when Jesus casts out Legion (many demons) from a possessed man - Legion begs Him to send them into a nearby herd of swine. Jesus obliges, and the herds of pigs dash over a cliff into the sea. Legion 'escaped' into the sea (the Devil's domain).

Not sure how accurate that interpretation is, but Jonah sure thought so.
