Quote from: Smit on January 09, 2024, 06:37 AMYeah, I'm happy to report it doesn't suck. :)

I'm still new at it though. My first thought was "It's a work night."

Then...oh yeah, it's not. Cool deal. :)

Washington's HC replacing Saban at Bama.
Interesting to see what he does there. My guess is that he will be gone in 3 years since Bama is spoiled by their success from Saban which is a once in a lifetime situation.
Kind of like the Red Wings having Scotty Bowman for all of those years. Best of the best.

Alabama was definitely spoiled. Like we were with Pete Carroll.

QuoteIn the meeting Wednesday, Saban thanked his players for the way they bought in and told them that he had thought out his decision carefully. But with the way college football has changed in terms of the transfer portal and tampering, NIL being used as a guise for bidding for high school players and transfers, and the recruiting calendar being extended, he told his players that the time was right for him to retire.

For the folks in Tuscaloosa the english translation is as follows; "Everyone else is able to pay their players like we in the SEC have been able to get away with since the dawn of time and with the playing field even for player compensation and Tuscaloosa being a shithole that's 2 hours away from civilization, we can no longer compete."

Alabama also had Bear Bryant (SP) who started Bama on the road to greatness as far as I know.

AFTER a healthy ass kicking September 12, 1970 at the hands of none other than The USC Trojans.

Bear Bryant started in 1958. There were a lot of games that were won before 1970.

IIRC 2 or 3 of his 6 or 7 Nattys were before the beat down and the rest after.

The Nattys were also decided by the media. The possibility of "get paid to vote for us" very well could have ended up with "popular" champion votes.

Hence the only reason why Michigan's 1997 National Championship is shared with Nebraska.
Tom Osbourne retiring garnered them sympathy votes for #1.
The Huskers would have lost bad if they faced Michigan that year.

And the Cornholers have been pretty much irrelevant ever since.

Yeah, I was a little bummed that Scott Frost couldn't succeed as a coach at Nebraska.

To be honest, I believe that DeBoer will do just fine at AL.  The only problem will be recruiting...  No chance making playoffs without athletes on the field.

Jeff,
So, is Mich back to sucking ass next year?  ;D

Funny.
At this point I have no idea what our team will look like. We're losing 20+ people to the draft, and the HC.
Everyone assumes the next coach will be Moore, but nobody knows for sure.
A shit ton of great recruits coming in also.

The SUCKEYES paid over 8 figures (so far) for their current roster as of today. Talk about desperate.
At least now they don't have to hide the fact that they're paying the players.  ;D
