Quote from: neurosis on October 20, 2023, 08:34 AMWas this by design, or?  I mean, did Trump actually focus his policy on helping minorities, or did they benefit by means of policy shrapnel?   I ask that because his focus was on helping wealthy people keep their money. If someone else benefited then he was happy to take the credit.

Specifically designed to help minorities, no. I have said this before, I think Trump desires a 1950's America in the sense that anybody, willing and able, can go get a job and make a decent living. I think he also sees all the bureaucratic BS that businesses face and he wants to minimize that. That was what the gist of what his EO's were. He cut the regs that made businesses unprofitable in America and unprofitable with American workers. This created opportunities for everyone, including minorities. This is what I think most trump supporters feel MAGA is about.

Maybe, but we don't live in the 1950's anymore.

How many Corporations own the media/news, telephone, internet - we listen to or use now. Just in your time in this trade, how many companies have been absorbed by Berkshire Hathaway or some other large Corporation? Half of the decent shops in this area were absorbed by Primus 20 years ago.  I don't even know who bought Primus at this point. I stopped paying attention 10 years ago.

I always feel like you're right on that teetering point of understanding the problem until you start defending some of the people who are responsible for it or support it.  :D  Not to say that you don't understand the problem because you obviously do. It's almost impossible to start a small business these days. Or buy a house, or pay for an education, or soon, even afford to buy a car. Forget about Health Care.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

We don't live in the 50's anymore, Yet Trump policies produced the lowest unemployment ever and the highest wages ever. It did work and can work again.

I don't understand how you think I support the people who perpetuate the problems. I'm the guy that says the only way it changes is with a civil war. I am very pessimistic about saving our democracy through voting because the system is so far corrupted. Look at how the swamp either corrupts or drives out anybody that is independent thinking. When I talk about saving the R party it is only me putting kids gloves on for those that are not ready to accept reality yet. There are a whole lot of people that would rather put their head in the sand than think about the truth and the implications of what that means in 10 or 20 years. If I was a little older, a little closer to retirement, I would probably want to stick my head in the sand as well.

Unemployment is low under Biden as well. Does that mean that you agree with his policies?

Average wages have increased year over year so technically, Bidens policies produced the highest wages ever?  I'm not making that argument, but it's an argument that could be made.

Let me frame this a different way.  Name one maga republican that has a plan or has done anything to make you think that they plan on solving those problems.  I'm not saying that the Democrats are going to solve them. I'm just trying to figure out who actually is, and what that solutions is. Otherwise, we're just choosing which garbage politician we want to throw our hat in the ring for and claiming that the rest are the bad ones.

About 8 years ago I had an epiphany when it comes to politics.  I'll credit Incog with this 'the fence sitter epiphany'.   I haven't seen either side of US politics offer any solutions to the problems we're facing. If you have, I'd be happy to read about it.  Which Maga politician(s) has/have a plan for skyrocketing health care prices, unaffordable homes, corporate monopoly price control? Real problems that we're facing, but the next few generations are going to be hamstrung by. Both sides dangle carrots and that's about it, and at this point, I haven't seen many politicians who wouldn't deserve anything less than a Tony Award for political theatrics. I would go see a movie with Bobert if she asked.

Any MAGA type R that has ideas on policies will not be tolerated by the status quo. They are ostracized by their party and demonized by the media.

I agree with both parties not proposing any real solutions. In honesty, you can't propose real solutions because real solutions are not easy and voters want easy. Where my thought process has evolved is that both parties are just fighting for their power under the rule of the mega corps and ultra rich. IMO, the only way it changes is when, regardless of party affiliation, the politicians, billionaire handlers, media pundits, etc. fear a mob with pitchforks and torches coming for them.

What are the ideas?  When the Republicans planned on tearing the ACA apart, they didn't have a plan to fix it. They just destabilized the insurance market to *our* dismay.  Agree with the ACA or not, and if we had some history from EMC, I was a critic. Don't tear it apart unless you have a plan to not fuck over the American people.  They didn't.  All they did was post half assed plans on their campaign ads but never had any legit replacement knowing that it was going to be turmoil. It was all theatrics that cost *us* and we're paying for it now.

Blame McCain if you want to, but we'll never know.

That's no excuse for what's going on in politics now. I know what you're saying, but it's just proof that they aren't here to represent the voters.  That's saying that the voters are too ignorant to know what they need or are voting for.  Maybe there is an argument there?   lol.

Just to be clear here, I'm not criticizing you, or anyone else to is conservative or any other fictional party of politics.  Just the politicians.
