Has anyone had experience with the Mitsubishi MV-4800 Wire EDM?  Ownership is going for a demo today and will likely be purchasing one.  This will be our first exposure to Wire EDM.  I don't think they are going to add wire to our mastercam license right away, instead opting to work with the OEM software to get started.

Their initial thought is to use this for machining keyways and use it as a replacement for our old keyseating machine.  Beyond that they have talked about making small spur gears and other such type of work that we could bring in house rather than sending to an outside vendor.

Any pro's or con's of using OEM software vs mastercam?  Any things we should look out for snice we have no wire experience?  Any hints or ideas would be appreciated.

The Mitsubishi came highly recommended by Overton Chicago gear.  We had a project that required gearing from OCG and ownership did a visit to their plant.  EDM's came up in their conversation and they sold ownership on the Mitsubishi.  It will be interesting to see what kind of work we get for it...

new machine day is fun. Probably can't go wrong with GF, Makino or Mits. I don't have much personal experience on the EDM side. People should really do a test cut between them to see which suits your needs the best. GF has some decent offline programming and probably the best generator in the world.
