Has anyone heard of or tried nexgen tools?

We had a local machine shop say that they've started using these in place of Imco end mills and are getting "as good as" tool life and they are a decent amount cheaper.

I've heard of them but haven't put any thought in to them.

Never heard of them, but claiming they are as good as IMCO is nice.
These days there are a few MFG's that can make a really good variable helix end mill. Still of all the ones I've used nothing compares to the Hanita Varimill. Kennametal's Harvii is the same one since Widia owns both.

Back when I was younger and a lot more of a smart ass, my boss came out to the shop and asked me why I had to have such expensive end mills to machine some parts we were making.  I was slotting in RC42 15-5. I asked what he suggested. He handed me a standard 4flt garr.

I swapped them out and the garr lasted about 5 seconds and blew up. I said "thats why".

The end mill I was using was a Hanita Varimill.  They were my go to end mill back in the 90's and early 2000's. There are a lot of good options out there these days.

The guy that recommended the nexgen, I don't know him very well. He's doing some work for our shop. He's the first to ever recommend them to me and I don't see a lot of chatter about them on the internet.

We have some of their products via McMaster-Carr.

MIL-TFP-41

We use SGS, Helical, Hanita, GWS, Kennametal, Iscar, Mitsubishi, YG, Garr, Niagra, Walter "exclusively".
Seems like some guys have tools that just work better in some situations than others. And others perform the same as others at 1/2 the price. I am always willing to try something new, you never know when something comes along that improves things.

That being sad, I would be scared to start up a endmill mfg business. There are so many makes out there, it would be competitive as hell, and odds are you wouldn't be bringing something to market that isn't already being made by 50 other mfg's.

We never did.

It doesn't sound like they would be convenient enough to get so I didn't look in to it any further.

I'd totally forgot about this to be honest.   <---- getting old.
