Never cut this shit before, I know I'm in for a treat.

Quoted Monel 400, they supplied Alloy 500. My question is, are they the same thing? Or is that actually K500 Monel?

Jeff

So I Googled everything I could think of.
Then I asked ChatGPT.
Alloy 500 is Monel K500.

I did some test cuts on our Brother because our Okumas are busy.
Handled it fine with a 3/4 indexable to skim the face, and a 1/2" Hanita Varimill to cut a 3" square.

Definitely noticed a LOT of tool deflection. I only cut a half dozen pieces, used the same end mill to rough and finish (finished it .05" big for other ops) you can see the tool pressure left over from the roughing pass . The finish pass was .01" per side at 150sfpm .002ipt.

I just can't wait to drill, bore and thread this shit.

gcode

check out the Carmex thread mill wizard

I did some 7/16-28, 3/8-16 and 1/4 -20 holes in inconel last year
I used their new FMT line of thread mills
They have through coolant for blind holes and a high flute count 6 for the 7/16 amd 3/8 tools 5 for the 1/4 -20

I was doing the 7/16 -28 holes at 165 SFM and 1.5 ipm  ( 30 seconds a hole with a 40 hole tool life)

Tool holders were  RegoFix and the machine was a little OKK Cat50 VMC with 1000 psi thru coolant.

They were not cheap, but you will not succeed cheaping out with inconel
