I mean, in every profession, somebody is in the bottom performing tier. Ship captains included. :coffee:

All the ship's lights going on and off would seem to indicate a power issue. I am surprised tugboats aren't used to navigate in and out of the port. That at least gives the port operators control over who is driving the ship.

At the time of the accident, the ship was being piloted by local pilots whos job is specificly to bring ships into port or open water. The idea is that local pilots are aware of hazards in each port, river and channel.

Looks like a weak bridge design. We have twin bridges here crossing the Ohio River. It's been hit multiple times by barges but it is supported by big round concrete pillars.

Bridges exposed to lots of ship traffic usually have things called dolphins that prevent a ship from making a direct hit on a bridge pier. This bridge did not.

The ship has a history of this sort of thing.
It hit a concrete pier in Denmark on 2016.
In that case the ship was damaged and the pier LOL'd.
I'm reading that the ship had lost it's engines and was drifting when this occured.

Heard the same thing as G...

The ship's owner is going to be paying a hefty price. Even though the ship flies a Singapore flag... my money is on Chinese ownership.

Conspiracy theory here, but in this video starting around the 2:06 mark, the bottom left shows the ship.
Loses power, and at this point it's almost parallel to the support.
Regains power and steers directly toward the support.
Loses power again for a short time.

To me, it looks as if it corrected it's heading to make a direct hit.

But that could also be the perspective of where that camera is so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Their were two pilots from the port in control of the ship at the time of the crash.

They called in a mayday for loss of power a couple minutes before impact.

This was somehow communicated to construction crews working on the bridge. Those guys managed to halt traffic or this would've been much worse.

Liberal media didn't waste much time talking about the casualties because they're now all parroting the same thing.... Francis Scott Key was a racist.
