Moved on to other things now though...:)

VoluMill and ModuleWorks have merged
I was thinking this could be a really good thing, but since
Mastercam already has dynamic toolpaths, it's not likely that they
will license Volumill toolpath to include them in Mastercam

This is the text of an email I received this morning

We're very excited to inform you that Celeritive is officially part of the ModuleWorks family! And together, as a new, bigger, and better company, we are bringing the best of both companies together for YOU. We are already building world-class manufacturing solutions and working even harder to deliver unmatched value – AND, we are doubling down on our relentless pursuit to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers around the world.

The biggest result of this merger is our ability to enhance our solutions at a faster rate while also opening doors to new machining efficiencies across a broader range of applications. By combining Celeritive and the ModuleWorks technical team, we will be able to accelerate the release of new features and functionality that will simplify and expand machining efficiencies – expanding the performance and value you have come to expect from Celeritive. That's a powerful combination at a time when machining performance matters more than ever. We now have more than fifty times the resources to help so we've already taken steps to start working on new enhancements for you.

The best part about many of these new improvements is they are yours for FREE, meaning they are already included in your current maintenance plan. And speaking of your maintenance plans and costs, you may be asking yourself "What's it going to do to my costs?"

The simple answer is – NOTHING.

Your current pricing and agreement stay the same and you can continue to manage your account and your technical needs just as you always have. We are committed to the continued support of our customers and bringing the best service and value to the industry.

We truly believe the future for our customers is brighter than ever and we are working hard to combine our resources, not just to build a bigger company, but a better one. We look forward to working with you and your team and expanding on the experience you have already come to trust.

Celeritive was gonna die because MW was kicking their ass MW did the humane thing; gobbled up the RARE talent available that KNOWS how to write metal removal algorithms.

Volumill does have one thing MW and Mastercam do not have.
Volumill Lathe.. I have no idea if it actually works or how well.

I'm always worried by the unregulated nature of software consolidations. The intangible throws people, and nobody takes it seriously. AutoDesk just bought and bought, and we saw it in digital art in tandem with manufacturing. All subscriptions, no competition, and you're an outsider if you think it's bad or even wierd. In the film biz, if you didnt have a Mac, an Autodesk sub and an Adobe sub you were literally laughed at. It was all optics though, back then, cause then we got the real work done in the dungeons on old HP workstations and linux. Most of the software we used back then has all be absorbed into AD now. Pretty sad.

I'm not for heavy handed gov't meddling, but there are background monopolies building up, and it's going to cost everyone $$$ when we have fewer choices in general, and not one choice that offers perpetual licensing or offline use.

I loathe Adobe for bringing subscriptions to software.
