MIL-TFP-41

Quote from: Jeff on June 14, 2024, 11:56 AMFailures of this quantity and magnitude seem like it's not accidental. It just doesn't pass the smell test.
Oh its not accidental, not by any stretch. Material suppliers have been found falsifying records likely since material certs were first required. Here is the west coast material supplier that I mentioned earlier:

https://www.justice.gov/usao-edva/pr/company-agrees-46-million-penalty-falsifying-test-results

Thing is they only admitted to 19 years of deceit. I suspect it had been going on long before that. This latest one is newsworthy because of Boeing's recent failures.

Its really tough to put this on Boeing or Airbus. They require suppliers to provide documentation of the materials. Documents look good, so the material must be good. There is a huge incentive for the material supplier....say the material is slightly out of spec...they have a choice to scrap a whole mill run of material (causing massive delays and tons of $$$) or they can fudge the numbers. Somewhere someone must of had a conscience and sent proof of the falsified records.

The problem I have with this Is.

No Faults were found.

No Checks No Re-Checks.

I Believe that was Boeings Fault.

And I Do Believe Shit was just Passed.

That goes Upstairs.$$$

From what I've read, the problem was discovered here at Spirit and past on to our customers.

QuoteAs first reported by The New York Times, Airbus and Boeing partner Spirit AeroSystems has alleged that titanium used on recently-built aircraft at both planemakers may have been falsely verified, leading the FAA to launch an investigation.

Machinists are manufacturing's canaries in the coal mine. They see shit LONG before it's a REAL problem.

Hmmm, interesting. Isn't Boeing in the process of acquiring Spirit? Seems like a great way to devalue a company, all of the sudden finding they have been doing dubious shit.

Quote from: neurosis on June 14, 2024, 09:02 AMDoesn't Boeing have an approved list of material suppliers?  Are you allowed to just buy the cheapest shit from anywhere?
If it's high grade titanium it's coming from China.

A large percentage of Ti and other high strength forgings came from the foundries in Mariupol, Ukraine.
I read that the largest forging press in the world was located in Mariupol.
You may recall, Mariupol was pretty much destroyed during the first year of the Ukraine/Russia was.

Quote from: YoDoug on June 14, 2024, 11:24 AMNot titanium but when I worked for the fishing reel company we ended up buying hand held x-ray material scanners because overseas suppliers kept sending "certified" lead free paint on kids products. Believe it or not, ambulance chaser type law firms in Cali send people to stores regularly to buy kids products and test them for lead. If they find lead they try to mount a class action lawsuit. We had to recall hundreds of thousands of kids fishing rods because of lead paint that was supposedly lead free.
A vegan making fishing reels is wild af

Spirit discovered the problem. They didn't do the counterfeiting.

Isn't it odd however, that the only ones dying, worked in the whistle testing department?

Quote from: mowens on June 17, 2024, 09:55 AMYeah, it was a supplier who notified Spirit and Spirit notified Boeing and Airbus.

I'm flying to Vegas Wednesday morning.

My connecting Flight in DFW is an Airbus. :o

Fingers crossed and my seat is at The Door. :)
