Quote from: JParis on September 18, 2024, 05:50 AMwe're a XXX million dollar company, if a bill of that size is a problem, we have bigger problems

That is what they (Sandvik) are counting on.
In the big companies, the people writing the checks aren't using the software and a bill like this isn't even a rounding error.
They clearly don't care if they lose individuals and small shops...which is a foolish and arrogant attitude.
99% of the Mastercam userbase started in small shops...and the next generation of programmers won't be using Mastrercam if they price the small shops out of the market.
As for the fanbois who feel like they just got bent over the waterbarrel, get over it, it's a tough world.

The person with a seat or 2 isn't going to feel it "too" badly....

But a company like ours with 15 individual seats, it added up quickly...

I agree though, those kinds of relationships, many are going to fracture. I don't see how this doesn't affect the user base in a substantive way. They are making themselves, financially at least, less competitive.

Maybe they don't care
If you read Newbee's link from his post last night, Mastercam is the only CAM acquisition that Sandvik didn't mention
in it's press release about AI.
Maybe it's going to be put out to pasture and eventually go to beef

I dunno, I didn't read it that way

"In September, the first version will launch and new functionality will be made available gradually and in more manufacturing software solutions."

For that money, I'd be wanting real intelligence not artificial....

Stating the obvious, these bills are all tax deductible against profits....and I'll flip with what John said....the small boys notice this, especially when fighting all other costs such as "energy increases" (which has ramped up EVERYTHING).
As G said, the bigger companies won't bat an eye lid....it's all relative.
5k spend for a 500k company is 50k spend for a 5mill company (yeh i know but you get my drift).
However, us grumpy ol boogers don't like getting effed over, and at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.
If i still had my business, I'd be looking at my options now....

I've always wanted to learn NX, but I can't afford to buy it myself and no one is going to hire a 70 year old trainee.
When Boy Genius became our manager in 2017 and announced our switch to CATIA, I begged him to consider NX, but he
could not be swayed.
He's gone now, as are the millions invested in his failed CATIA effort.

The truly sad part about this is the time that was lost. You can never recover that.

Quote from: gcode on September 18, 2024, 05:14 AMA multiseat discount on maintenance renewal has been around as long as there has been maintenance.
Either you weren't aware of it and your dealer didn't mention it, or he was keeping it for himself
and charging you the single seat price on every seat.

I suspect it was the latter LOL, based on his standard MO :)

In regards to NX. When we fell out on MC, we took on NX. One license of it. I liked it, it was powerful for 3-5 axis mill. The turning was a little clunky, but the cost of support and posts from the reseller were eye watering. And the support was pretty crappy.

All reseller bs aside ( :) ), when I took on TopSolid, I came to realise it pretty much had the power of NX, both in Design and CAM, and the PDM was an added bonus.

But we lost about 2.5 years going to down the NX road. And I got the impression NX is interested in the big companies. They're not interested in small shops.

This is the exact same feeling I get! It feels like everything i wanted NX to be!

Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

All of that wellness promoting and lowering of their carbon footprint is expensive! They need more money for jet fuel to travel around the world telling people how much they've lowered it.

Quote from: gcode on September 18, 2024, 05:14 AMI have been cutting back on our Sandvik tool purchases where ever possible.

I wish I could, but we get such a nice discount, and their tooling really is top notch. Besides, the boss wouldn't even entertain the idea of switching tool companies. We spend quite a bit of money, especially on lathe inserts to maintain 13 cnc lathes and tooling for 6 cnc mills.
Obviously nowhere near some of you other guys but still that's no small amount.
Our rep told me that for big aerospace companies they don't offer discounts because they can afford it.

Certainly 10+ years ago, UK, discounts were a big thing.
I don't know now, but wouldn't be at all surprised if nothing has changed....

I'm not a MC user, and I haven't tried NX, but yes....TS is really a nice program-very good fit for my work here.

Reading about all of this maintenance hike stuff has got me hoping that TS doesn't find a way to mess this up!

I figured this was coming when the Summers' decided to cash out.
Once Sandvik appointed a "Chief Revenue Officer" I new for sure.

For me it's a good thing, it'll force management to seriously consider moving on to NX.
I currently use it for modeling & drafting, but we don't have a manufacturing license.

I was a long time Unigraphics user prior to coming here. I've not enjoyed Mastercam from day 1.

Not trying piss anyone off, I know most of you all are long time happy Mastercam users.
I'm glad it works for you.
