Quote from: gcode on August 01, 2024, 08:36 AMWell,
we can agree on a couple of things
you think I'm an idiot
I think you're an arrogant, thinks he knows it all asshole.
We'll leave it at that and move on.

I don't think you are an idiot. I know, however, that your belief that the election was stolen is not based in fact, and is therefore wrong. You are entitled to your belief.

And yes, we can move on.

When a physical trait, physical characteristic, and/or set of chrmosomes carries more weight than qualifications do, that's a problem.

Condoleeza Rice relied on nothing more than her intellect and qualifications. She could have become POTUS... if she wanted it. She's far too smart for the job and she KNOWS the left would rip her life to shreds... for sport.

The reality is the people we need to be running this nation at the various levels are far too smart to take on such a task. Nothing is sacred anymore. A guy does stupid shit as a teenager, somebody was around to take a photo/video of it, boom! Life over. And if by chance you are squeaky clean, the left will invent some shit and create false evidence that turds like Sucky Cornstarch and Smithead will lap up, point to their "sources" in smug defiance.

That's where we are, and it ain't gonna change any time soon.

Quote from: Smit on August 01, 2024, 08:45 AMWhy do Repugs delight in calling people DEI hires? It's clearly an insult, insinuating they are not qualified for the job.
She's not qualified for the job.
Due to her sexual and family connections, she has failed up at every job she's ever had.
Biden himself said he picked her as VP because she was a black woman.
Her management style and how she treats people is so abrasive she had a 92% turnover
in staff during her three years as VP.
I also believe she will win the Presidency and expect it to be a complete disaster.

and

while we're on the subject, I don't believe JD Vance is qualified to be VP and one heartbeat away from the presidency either

Please list 1 DEI hire that has proven they are qualified to do the job.

I don't think Vance is either. I think he's a smart man but not President material. I thought Niki was however.

Quote from: Smit on August 01, 2024, 08:45 AMThat's not the same as being unqualified.

Might as well be.
It's identity politics, pure and simple.

Biden put himself in that box when he announced that he would be picking a woman of color for his VP, which effectively eliminated probably 95% of qualified people, regardless of their race or gender.

Just imagine if Trump said, "I'm not sure who I am picking, but I know it will be a white male."
Yet Biden did the exact same thing, and nobody bats an eye.

The double standard is alive and well!

Quote from: beej on August 01, 2024, 08:32 AMhonestly, I've been watching the "smart approach" for the last 4 years, it's nauseating. I think he actually handled that question just right.

I can't believe that anyone would think that, but fair enough.

Quote from: beej on August 01, 2024, 08:32 AMOne other observation: I thought DEI was/is a "coveted Good" in progressive circles. Why do they despise calling Kamala a DEI hire? Do they want us to believe that she was chosen on Merit?

The question was, do you think that was the *only* reason.  If he were smart he would have just said, I don't think she's qualified for the job, and left it at that.

C'mon now... when has superlative In-Chief EVER "left it that that"? I'm thinking he's incapable of that. It's one of his character flaws. We've ALL got them.

I'm not the least bit concerend about what Donald Trump SAYS. I judge him on what he DOES. He did good things for our nation. Said some crass shit. Oh well. William Jefferson Clinton DID criminally crass shit yet he's venerated by the left.

One of the main reasons she was picked is because as part of the existing team that has been selected
by the legal Dem primary process, she is the only candidate who can inherit the existing $300 million
Presidential Campaign war chest. Selecting someone else could have gotten messy.

It will be interesting to see how the Dem convention turns out.
She will be the first candidate in history to run for President without have received one single primary vote.
There are a whole lot of Dem's who are not happy about that, but I doubt any of them have the balls to start a floor fight over it.
It's one of the reasons for all this fake drummed up enthusiasm you see on social media
They are running a full blown astroturf social media campaign to make her nomination an excepted fact and a done deal before the convention starts.
I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect there are illegal aspects to kicking Biden to the curb and replacing him with Harris
but there is not a single Dem in DC with the balls to say so.

the follow up to your answer would have been, "Because she's black or because she's a woman?"  (that's how that lady was framing the questions)

Then Trump would have said, because she's not smart or maybe even more rash, she's stupid.

Then the journalist would have said, Women are stupid, Got it! and moved on.

I might have said, Joe Biden said he was going to pick a VP base on gender and skin color. You should take it up with him.

But you and I have also had 24 hours to reflect on the question. But I thought asking her to define what DEI is was not a bad way to go with that. The journalist refused to go down that road.

Sure, I thought he should have pushed that more than he did but I'm not sure that he knew how to corner her with it. She just blasted out what the acronym was and didn't give a clear definition of what it meant. When he gets attacked his marbles start bouncing around too fast to put something together.

The Governor of Washington State is the same way. When he gets asked a tough question he goes straight to hyperbole and character assassination. Because of that he rarely put's himself in a position where he knows he's going to have to answer a tough question.  Probably smart of him?
