Quote from: neurosis on August 07, 2024, 08:51 AMI guess I don't know anyone else who could get people to follow them like they do Trump.  You get the feeling that Trump could knock down an old woman in the street, take a dump straight on her chest, and his supporters would say "she was probably a democrat" and move on.

That is the new normal.

And...President bone spur. What a hero. :)

Quote from: neurosis on August 07, 2024, 08:22 AMI would hope that things could go back to normal after but I'm not so sure anymore.

Normal kind of went out the door with the transgender movement didn't it?

There you are being a good Democrat making fun of diagnosed medical conditions. You realize there are legitimate medical exemptions for military recruitment, right?

or you could have a candidate who apologizes for voting or a bill that protects a baby born alive and his supporters would say...well I can't think of what his supporters would say, but I know they move on.

He never stood a chance because he's Jewish, he's probably the best candidate they had.
The anti-semitism from the left the past few years has been insane!

"maybe *more* normal?  "

There again; what is normal?

You know, this won't be a popular opinion but; I blame Rush Limbaugh and talk radio for the schism we have now. He found out he could make hundreds of millions of dollars by firing up the lowest common denominator of listeners. He gave his "opinions" and some people took them as facts and then they got riled up. Other personalities saw how much money he made and tried to do the same. Only, they had to do something to distinguish themselves from Rush so they talked louder and with more outrage and it just snowballed. Soundbites took the place of news stories.
The left was unable to duplicate the right's talk radio juggernaut so "journalists" started "fact checking" and including their opinions in their stories.

And now here we are. Outrage and hyperbole are now the standard for political speech. There are no journalists anymore, there are only editorialists. People who have grown to adulthood during this time know no other way. Politicians rarely work for the good of the public, short of a national emergency, and sometimes not even then.

It's sad and depressing. It's hard to be optimistic about the future.

Would you care if he hadn't apologized? Something tells me that it wouldn't have mattered either way.

alphanews.org?  I'd hate to visit that site.

I 100% agree with you on this. Rush, and people like him (the Tucker Carlsons), are at least partially, if not mostly, responsible for this mess.

This has to be the most astute, well reasoned, and most accurate thing ever posted on a Mastercam forum, ever. And not just because I agree. I've been saying this since my journalism days, but never so succinctly.

There are still real journalists out there, but they are getting harder and harder to find. It is indeed sad and depressing.
