do you guys still see people driving their car ... alone ... wearing masks?
I do all the time, I'm thinking it may be due to the heavy smoke in the air
here from all the fires.. I can't imagine people still being scared enough of covid
that they mask up alone in their car

Yes I still see it from time to time, that is normally how people around here announce they are Democrats...

Quote from: Jim at Gentex on August 09, 2024, 04:28 AMNo forest fires here in PA, but still lots of masks.

Walking around Walmart the other day I must have seen a dozen people wearing masks, some of them customers and some employees.
And yes, I saw a few of the customers get in their cars and drive away, by themselves, still wearing the mask.

It's like Newb said, the fear of Covid was driven into some people so deeply that now all .gov has to do is mention bird flu, or monkey pox, or some other ailment, and they go running for their masks like frightened children in a thunderstorm.

It's sad really...

A lot of people around here are getting Covid.

I don't think they know the difference, and the PCR test is still a coin flip at best.

I was thinking about this.
In Asia, people routinely wear masks when then go outdoors because the air is so bad.
This area is swarming with immigrants from Asia and many of the people I see wearing masks alone in cars
are Asian.  Maybe is just a habit they brought from the old country??
Another factor is the air around here has been pretty bad all summer due to wildfires.

I think you just accurately described PA as well.

I would also add that class envy was instilled all along the way, so even though both major parties have many VERY wealthy donors, the Dems around here still view the Reps as 'the party of the rich', despite the fact that MOST of the tech billionaires and Hollywood elites are liberal Democrats.

Well, I found the longer video at least. The context didn't help much but at least I know what they were talking about.

Here is a link starting at 30 minutes in

That is my father-in-law to a Tee. when we discuss issues we mostly agree on the problems and solutions. But he also hates republicans with a passion. He gives every democrat the benefit of the doubt, and thinks all republicans, even ones he might agree with, are camouflaging some ulterior motive. Then at the same time he is disgusted by things that democrats are pushing for. My wife and I really have a hard time understanding it.

I saw an article on Yahoo finance talking about Vance's time as a venture capitalist and the different billionaires that brought him on with virtually no experience and gave him all kinds of money to work with. Also how those same billionaires gave the largest ever donations to a senate campaign when he was running. Again I say Vance is a big business plant disguised as a hillbilly. He will eventually end up turning on Trump and working class Americans for the sake of globalist billionaires.

I don't think it's any secret that he hobnobs with Billionaires. He is on the republican ticket with one.

Big difference there. Trump doesn't need to keep other billionaires happy. Vance is owned. No different than Biden/Kamala being owned by their handlers.

you, not only, don't trust Vance. you don't trust Trump then. Because he picked Vance. And if you don't trust him, how can you vote for him?

I won't speak for Doug, but I strongly suspect some will vote for Trump for the same reason this time as the previous ones.

He was NOT Hillary, or Biden.

I also suspect some will vote for Harris because she is NOT Trump.

Sad to say people vote defensively anymore, but that's where we are.

Not quite that simple. You are trying to get me in an all-or-nothing, gotcha question. I don't trust Vance because history tells me if he has to choose between what is good for working class Americans or the bottom line of his handlers, He will choose his handlers. Trump on the other hand has proven himself by his successes in his first term. I don't have a reason not to trust him. I question his choice in people he surrounds himself with and appointments, but just like I have to choose the lesser or two evils when voting, Trump has to choose which Swamp R's are the least swampy when he picks someone.
