Quote from: DUM1 post_id=7284 time=1614028372 user_id=130todays special , weekend guy says this is impossible , these parts cant be made this way! spends all weekend re vamping " optimizing" he sys .
come in to a pile of scrap from the original way we made them, another pile of scrap from the "optimized" way that the guy thought were good parts ... and I get the ole  what happened we have been making these for the last 7 years? what's changed ? and never have had a problem before  speech, from the weekend and day shift supervisors at my desk
I reply only things that changed are the people making the parts and the people supervising the people making
the parts .... anything else I can help you with .

How can we keep this from ever happening again ???!!!??? :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:

Were both piles of scrap from the same person?

yes same person scrapped the whole run , took 36 hours and 20 parts , all because he didn't read the print or the setup sheets .
same day after day shift guy goes , reloads program and makes 10 of the 20 that were due and ships the needed 10 on time...
no program edits no "optimizing" just load and go , a total gravy day for him .

Simple answer: don't employ idjits.

when I answer this question I always say shut the doors , close down , never make another part again....
then they get really  upset and look at me funny      :secret:

newest peeve ; boss director DICK calls meeting with customer
Shows up 1 hour 15 minutes late while me and a couple other guys that are required to attend meeting are sitting there waiting......
Comes in all nonchalant with the customers after we have been sitting there for over an hour they all talk and play patty cake , no masks , no social distance for about 15 minutes not saying a word to us littles
then turns and says oh ,,, you guys can go now ... almost 2 hours later !
now I get paid by the hour so no big deal as long as I get paid but DAM it !,
don't come and ask me "is done yet"?   after waiting around for an hour .

I got an assignment to answer a "few questions" from a programmer in another state. Then I get a 16 page word document.
A part that we worked on in R&D is transitioning to production. I understand wanting to make sure everything is clear. But this 16 page document goes through our programming software page by page asking what each parameter setting we used is. The ridiculous part is that he has screen shots of everything with the parameters blank.
Here's an idea. How about you load the existing program into the software and do what I'm doing for you. Take screen shots all the pages with all of the parameters filled. And don't be offended when you ask a question about how to determine a web width or how to determine a radius value and I say " interrogate the cad model."
I've heard other programmers talk unfavorably about this guy but I've never had a problem with him before.

answer 3 leave the rest
Does a few mean 2 or 3?
While many would agree that few means three or more, the dictionary definition is, "not many but more than one." So, a few cannot be one, but it can be as low as two.    :D

Part programming procedure:

1. Apply training and experience, referencing part specification.
2. Check if part is good.
3....
4. Profit!

the bosses rant yesterday

" 4 out of 5 of you guys are terrible programmers and you're f'ing gone!!!"
then he looked at one of my guys and draws his finger across his throat
rant continues
"There's no way that part takes 400 hours to program... you should just push the f'ing button
and it's done!!!"

I never took rants at me well.

I'd say, I have to work, but I don't have to work for you.
